Light weight Iron head

I know this has most likely been asked before but I’m 6”2’ and I need an 1 in extensions on my irons. This creates a huge swing weight problem in my ap2 718 amt shafts. They are d6 Now. I don’t really want to drill my clubs and don’t believe that counter weighting fixed the problem because the overall weight has changed and doesn’t feel right. Are their club brands that make a lighter head without sacrificing forgiveness?  8hcp and see a pga pro regular basis. Thanks in advance

If money was no object then the Callaway epic star forged look nice, and XXIO has some irons that may work.  Cobra f max are light but but that is bulky looking coming from an ap2.  I don’t know the headweights on the ping i500’s that I’m playing but to get the swingweight to d4 I had to add quite a bit of lead tape.  The sw on them was very low with 110 steelfiber shafts.  What shafts are you currently using and is there any chance that could be the way to attack the issue?

Are you sure you need 1" over length irons ? There have been several Tour pros 6'3" or taller who played standard length irons. The tall pros make standard work well  by using an effective address posture. For example, stand close to the ball at address, or have a significant bend from the hips, or use knee flex to get the club down to the ball, or a combination of these address technique factors. I suggest trying different address postures and you may find one that works well for you.

The problem with over length is that they are heavy/bulky to swing, even when using lighter shafts and, or, lighter club heads. But if you really want to go that route then Ping designs their heads for relatively easy alteration of weight.

One alternative solution to the problem that seems to be gaining some ground (here in this forum at least) is to use shorter length gaps.   You see, the issue with heavy heads tends to be worse for the longer irons than the shorter ones and the extra length is really only truly needed at the short end of the set.  Start with the wedges at +1", then use 3/8" length gaps instead of the normal 1/2".   Don't adjust the head weights.  This will result in a progressive decrease in swing weight as the set gets longer that gives a set that is closer to an MOI matched set of clubs.   And the loss of length only has very minor effect on the distance gaps, nothing a minor tweak of the lofts wont fix  if you see any issues in the first place.  The shorter length in the long irons can also give a bit more consistency in those clubs.   You can even test it out by choking up before doing any actual cutting.

This may not be an option, but moving to lighter weight shafts and heavier grips might solve the problem.  There are composite shafts these days that are stiff as a board but much lighter than steel.
