Different betting game for 16 players???? Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

We typically play skins for our lager group and then some sort of match within foursomes. I am looking for some suggestions of other things we can do for the 16 that keeps it interesting for everyone (ie not low score/net score)? We typically toss in $20, have a wide range of caps 2-21.

My club of 25 years had a standard team game every Sunday.

4 man teams, 2 best balls count for each hole, best team score wins. $15 per player/$60 per team. We'd also play "team birdies" for $2 per. It was a GROSS game, no strokes.

Simply put each team is playing against every other for best team score and birdies.

So if Team A had 5 and Team B had 2, Team B would owe Team A another $24 (3 birdies X $2 X 4 players). All teams paid the others the same way.

We'd also have an individual low gross prize and 1 or 2 low net prizes as well as a couple of closest to the pins.

Thanks the payout seem clever. We often rotate into doing teams (foursomes or twosomes) so I am looking for something a bit more unique that we have never tried before. Like some version of a Bingo Bango Bongo for 16 guys...

No problem. They've played that way for close to 70 years. Every time someone wants to "change it up" a bit he gets shouted down. We have 1 "special" day per year; July 4th. That day we played 2-man teams, 9 hole scramble and 9 hole alternate shot.

But looking back I think I explained a part of it poorly.

The birdie game is each team against each other team.

The gross team game has 1 winner. The $60 per team is one pot and the winner would win the $240.

i.e. the 3rd place team doesn't collect from 4th place and pay 2nd place. The team game is winner takes the pot.

We typically will either play an individual 18 point quota game or a team game. Count two balls per hole, or three, or two with three counting on par 3’s, etc. Good to change it up. Or...will sometimes change it to a two man game rather than four man.
Skins we usually have a fairly narrow range of handicaps...from a 1 to a 7 so usually just play half stroke skins.

Everyone in for $25 and each foursome picks 15 or (whatever number) scores to count for each 6 holes. The trick is you have to pick the scores you will use before you tee off on the next hole. So 1st 6, 2nd 6, 3rd 6, total, and bonus (junk). The bonus is usually a point for closest to pin (must make par to count), net par for the group, and birdies, most points over 18 wins.

There is some strategy in picking the scores you will use and you really don't want to go into the last hole needing all 4 scores. Its a fun game and the bets usually even out.

I assume you mean 'seeding' in a 16 person playoff bracket.

But I can't say I am following how the 3 and 3 work?

yes 1 and 16, 2 and 15 and so on and so forth. Pick 3 holes from the front at random typically a par 3 par 4 and par 5. Then add the scores gross and who ever has the lowest score for the 6 holes wins a side pot.

Do you pick them before or after the round? Do you redraw new holes for each round of the playoffs? I could see that being interesting.

Usually done after the round. It is a great way to give away small prizes and give every one a good chance at winning something.
