I got 2021 ProV1 balls in the mail from Titleist.  Will start testing against 2019 ProV1 when the weather is better.

I read in another thread (maybe the TSi Driver thread) that the new V1x may be a bit higher spinning (greenside) and softer feeling.

I agree that Titleist doesn't need to do anything drastic, but with how successful the TP5 has been, I would like to  see them tweak the normal V1 a bit more.

in Titleist's in house testing, they find the TP5 to be consistently shorter the ProV1.... thats what they told me during my virtual ball fitting because i use the TP5 and that was the comparison. They sent me the AVX amd ther Prov1 for comparison.....

I got a sleeve of each the new Pro V1 and the Pro V1x today. I tested them each on a Trackman and below will be my results as best I can tell you.  I tested them against the old Pro V1 (not the old X).  I hit 5 balls each with a 60* wedge (trying to hit a 80 yard shot - not full), a 7-iron full and a Driver along with putts.

Essentially, the new Pro V1x feels the same in softness as the old Pro V1. The New Pro V1 feels softer than all.

60* wedge shots:  New Pro V1 spin increased over the old Pro V1 by 100 rpm and New Pro V1x spun 200 rpm more.

7-iron: New Pro V1 spun same as old Pro V1 and about the same as the new Pro V1x. I hit the X farther.

Driver: New Pro V1 spun less than old Pro V1 and the new ProV1x spun the same as the old Pro V1. Both balls went the same distance.

Hence, Titleist’s claims are true.  The new balls, spin more on wedges, same on irons and less on drivers. Both balls feel softer of the putter and chips shots.

I used to be a Pro V1x player and switched to the Pro V1 during the last cycle. I think I will be going back to the X because the feel is the same as the old ProV, spin around the green is more, and all other parameters are consistent with the old ProV.

Appreciate the write up. I saw somewhere else that the new V1 is lower launching as well as lower spin. True?

X might be the ball for me. I don’t like too soft for sure.

The New Pro V1 launches lower and spins less than the New Pro V1x. However, the New Pro V1 spun more on wedges, same on irons and less off driver with the same launch as the Old Pro V1, but felt softer on all shots.

I wonder how much softer the  prov1 is. I switched to Bridgestone bxs because of the softer feel.

It’s more enjoyable hitting shots with a good feeling ball and the prov1 has been average feeling in my opinion

Not sure why I am letting myself get drawn into this debate but....

When it comes to balls I have not really found any rhyme or reason to what ball fits who best. There are so many variables and tradeoffs to contend with that the ideal ball for a player can sometimes be pretty surprising.

The new Pro V1 is softer than the previous version Pro V and slightly firmer than the AVX...in my opinion.

What was the trajectory like of each?  And when you say off the driver they went the same distance is this just comparing carry distance?

I’ll try my best to describe (and I tested them again yesterday on Trackman).

Old Pro V1 and new Pro V1 launch the same on 7 iron and driver, but the new ball has the same spin on the 7 iron, but less spin off the driver than the old Pro V.

7-iron: New Pro V1x launches lower than new Pro V1, but has about 200 RPM more spin. Therefore, has a higher peak and higher angle of descent....yet the new Pro V1x carries 2-3 yards further.

Driver: New Pro V1x launches 1-2* higher with about 200 RPM higher spin than the new Pro V1. Peak height is higher on the new Pro V1x.

New Pro V1x carries further off the driver than the new Pro V1, but with increased spin, both balls roll out to the same total distance.

I hope that helps.

They are entirely new golf balls, and they had to modify their manufacturing molds which is a major change that hasn't been done in years.

The ball borrows some tech from the left dash to keep the ball speed up and spin down on the driver, while making the cover slightly softer for feel and spin around the greens and irons.  New dimple pattern will reduce the affects of the wind, making ball flight more stable.

I think the changes address the places where they could improve the 2019 ball, while remaining true to the performance characteristics of those ball models.
