US Kids golf Driver-dented crown, customer service

My 13 year old is on 5th set of US Kids golf. Never had a problem before. We think this damage happened when his 6 iron was going back into bag. He is not a hot head , never slams clubs. 1) Will this affect playability?  2)should USKG replace (they have refused)?  Would you replace with something else or just play until he is big enough for a new driver? Not happy with USKG service.

Thanks!

I wouldn't expect them to replace the club.  However, I have had much better luck with OEM's in regards to replacing clubs. I had a Cobra Fly-Z+ 5W get a dent in the crown while still under warranty and they sent me a brand new F9 5W.  This was likely damaged by an iron or something in the rear of our SUV during transport.

Also had an F9 driver that got chips on the crown/top of face which was a known complaint against the club.   They sent me a brand new SZ driver head (and headcover) and said to keep the F9.

Why would they replace the club?  You have admitted that it was hit and damaged by his 6i.  My kid has dented several Fairway Woods and Drivers over the years.  I am talking about Taylormade and Callaway.  I wouldn't even think of asking them to replace for something that was his fault.

Why should they lose money for something he did?

Most OEM's will replace just about anything if you complain. Why do you think Drivers cost so much.

I wouldn't bother though with a US Kids driver they all suck and if he is 13 he should have already moved on to adult clubs. Go out and get a used OEM driver to replace it. US kids clubs don't really last that long anyways there kind of cheap clubs compared to OEM. Don't get me wrong there good for what they are but OEM clubs are usually way better.

This is true.  I didn't read the age.  At 13 he needs to be in adult clubs anyway.

We literally don't know how it happened. The kid is on 5th set of clubs and nothing like this has ever happened.  We think it may have been from putting another club in the bag but not sure.

Drivers are the most likely club to break in your bag.   I would have never believed  this but playing them in cold weather  is the  easiest way for them to crack.  Also never leave them in a hot car it cause lots of issues.

The damage on the club you have could have even been caused lots of things that really are not anyones fault. US Kids clubs are disposable so not surprising they don't cover anything Most people are aleady using OEM Drivers buy the time the kid is 7 or 8.

I have found most OEM's are pretty liberal on replacement of them because they want you buy a new Driver every year.  If you notice a driver losing distance the first thing you need to do is inspect the club.  A lot them end up going bad after a year or two. There only made to last as long as the warranty.

I don’t see the dent, caused by the 6 iron going back into the bag, impacting the performance of the club. I’ve actually done the same thing (by accident) to an old driver. The blemish is likely not covered by USKG and I would imagine that most manufacturers have similar policies. The dent is like a sky mark in that it’s aesthetically unattractive but doesn’t really do anything to overall performance. This is a simple lesson in the effectiveness of headcovers and paying a bit more attention. Not really a big deal 🤓. Be safe and hit’em well!

I have also had epoxy come loose on two of the clubs in this set. Wondering if quality control is becoming a problem over there. Never had this problem before.

There are always 3 sides to a story.  What you tell your dad.  What you tell the insurance company/police.  And the truth.  Having been a kid once, there is no way dad is going to find out until he's on his death bed.

I would not expect USA Kids to pony up for a new driver.  Time to move on.

When you say epoxy what exactly do you mean? Did the ferrule just come loose or are the club heads literally flying off the shafts mid swing?

Ferrules coming loose is a pretty common occurrence regardless of manufacture. I've had that happen with clubs from a number of OEMs over the years. Noting a dab of super glue didn't fix.  If the club heads are literally falling off that is a separate issue that the manufacture should fix.

Putting a headcover on the driver would have prevented that original issue from ever happening if in fact it was damaged by putting an iron in the bag. Although, I can't imagine simply putting a iron back in the bag would have caused that unless he slammed it with enough force. I remember the first time I broke a club out of anger (slammed an 8 iron against a tee marker after a bad shot and broke the shaft) my dad made me pay to replace it and that was the last time I ever broke a club.

I had  2 TM Irons fly off the shaft during a swing.

I have had a Cleveland Wedge Head fall off tapping the sand off of my shoes.

My son has had a Callaway head fall off an iron.

Yep, had a TM 5 iron head fly into a bush one time.  Made sure to use glass beads when I reshafted it.

Yep I seen lots of heads fly.  It really doesn't matter who glued them they can even do a good job.  I was told if you live in a hot climate put the clubs in the trunk of a car the glue is bound to break down.  If you live in Florida, Texas or Arizona and Califonia your going to see this a lot.

I try and limit the time clubs are in the car.  It's not always possible though if your traveling. But taking clubs into hotel room not stoping for hours at a time really helps.

Literally never leave the clubs in the car. Ferrules coming loose. Never happened to either of us with any oem before, including USKG. Epoxy came loose on 2 clubs within 3 months.
