There will have to be an a new thread when the photos are released or mods could delete 99% of the posts in this thread when all is said and done...

Please come back February 1 for actual information, and all of your questions will be answered.  Pictures and shaft options too!  Even then there will be a few pages about TM’s shaft tipping policy.

What is the shaft tipping policy? I must have missed this one...or is it being swept under the rug?

Taylormade tips all the driver shafts 1" regardless of the manufacturers recommendation. So customers are unaware they may be receiving a shaft that will play differently than when they were fitted as the fitting shafts could differ in tipping.

I would assume that if you were to be fitted by a TM rep at a demo day then you would essentially be hitting the same 1" tipped shaft bc that's what the rep has. Factory. Going elsewhere to a truespec or cc would definitely throw everything off unless

Thats pretty wild though, has TM commented about it?

this is actually only partially true.

the only way to confirm is to go on their website and build a driver. If it gives you the option to go 1” soft then it’s tipped an inch but for example this year the Smoke Green 70 came untipped but the 60 was tipped an inch.

Its all OEM dependent and never aligned to OEM recommendations.

ALWAYS build out the driver using their “custom” option to ensure you get what you want

Taylormade did comment I think in the Ask Taylormade Anything thread. Can't recall the true reasoning.

This is right. Always build your driver in the customization option.

Well that’s interesting. Still haven’t come across a 60 gram that has been untipped using the tool

According to what I've read around here from people I believe know what they're talking about is that TM routinely tips all STOCK shafts 1" - so an off the rack stock shaft would certainly be tipped.

Upcharge, exotic shafts they'll leave UNtipped unless the buyer specifies otherwise.

And one might logically assume, since an upcharge shaft would be a "special" order, that part of said order would be "Tip the shaft (if so, how much ?) or not ?"

Not correct.

Go build a Velocore and they tip 1” and you need to request it soft if you want it untipped.

I know the above is from 4 years ago but this is what I was going off of for an answer to the other members post. Looks like 1" is across the board upcharge or not unless you request otherwise.

Below is the response @TaylorMade Golf gave to someone as to their reasoning for tipping driver shafts 1" the thread linked below. Page 3 1st response.

"Ram, really good question. Short answer, a lot of it is based on manufacture recommendations. The long answer is when golf shafts became modular and were able to be interchanged the whole build process changed. Drivers had deeper hosels and shafts went deeper in to heads and many were still bore through heads. In order to get the shaft to perform the same way, we had to tip shafts to match the depth that a driver shaft would go previously.

Example:

Old bore through head the shaft would go in 2 inches

vs.

New R9 with FCT adapter (which only goes into the head 1inch)

If we didn't tip the R9 shaft it would play softer than when compared to another driver.

As a club builder many wood shafts coming in 46-47 inches in length. This gives the fitter/builder a lot of room to work with and gives them more options to dial in your specs and build. Trimming more or trimming less can give the golfer a club that feels firmer or softer and in doing so helps them deliver the club to the ball better.

Freddy V. - Team Taylormade"

Anyway, lets gets back to the SIM 2.0 non-photo thread.

So I guess that means everything on the racks would be tipped 1".

About as well as it will for TM for me. I was a religious TM driver user since the Orange headed days, but stopped after the M3. If this has a shape even close to the Sim then it'll be another year never having a TM driver on the golf course. Crazy times when their irons are the best looking(and performing) part of their lineup.
