I think we might be looking at a year where the two best drivers of previous releases (SIM and 410LST) basically remained stagnant or potentially a small step backward, and allowed the field to essentially catch them or maybe even pass them in the case of the Epic LS. I will 10000% go test all of these new releases but early signs have me super disappointed in TM’s and Ping’s release. Per my usual, if I go test and find out SIM2 dominates the gamer and is worth the coin, I’ll happily quote this post and eat crow.

I said it before...sim2 would be akin to 17 m series.

Biggest positive for me is that the new Sim2 Rescue comes in 57'-60' lie angel vs a set 60' in the Max Rescue

Given it is the same loft hosel as the driver I'm assuming that the #3 is 57' as standard loft...if it is then it is getting bought immediately!!....no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get rid of the left with my Max Rescue!

For anyone curious, there's an image on TM's page for the customized SIM2 confirms that we're going to have the option of a fully blacked out SIM2 with that black version of the face/top.

Is the 3-wood SIM2 a smaller head than the SIM?

I think I read 10% smaller?  Is that comparable to the M5 3-wood size? There's still no Tour size available?

Seems that it's kept most everything positive with the SIM but made it even more forgiving/playable. Sounds like a winner so far. Eager to test soon because I thought SIM was the best driver I'd ever been fit into but a bit more forgiving on the off hits would be a nice upgrade.

I just spent 20 minutes trying t find the size of the m5, cant find it anywhere.

Seems the Sim2 is 170 and Sim was 180.

I am so tempted to replace my M5.... my sky mark annoys the hell out of me!

SIM2 will fall between the SIM and M5 for size. All of these are for the 3 Wood.

SIM: 180cc

SIM2: 170cc

M5: 161cc

Big miss on the drivers imo. Loss of weight track in Sim2 for people who want that adjustability is a huge downgrade. Heel-side weight in the Max2 also seems like a huge miss as plenty of people who want the forgiveness from Max have no interest in added weight in the heel. I guess the target audience is different this year.

I'm going to withhold judgement until I hit them on Friday. TM drivers have been consistently fade biased for a few years, so the MAX possibly being more neutral sounds really good to me.

Agreed for sure. I think this may fit me much better than the original Sim. I am not close to Matt at TXG in any category other than my miss is a high toe miss and I prefer to fade the ball. I can usually look at what he plays and know it would work decently well for me in my right specs. The one outlier is the Mavrik he played last year. This miss is why Ping has been my driver of choice. Nothing is close on retaining ball speeds on the toe side miss unless you go back to the 2016 M2.

One other thing to mention is I think TM is setting us up for 2022 and bringing a moveable weight somehow into the aluminum area. Whether it is static similar to Ping or sliding like Callaway, that is the most logical area and people that count are already voicing their displeasure in the fact it was left out this year.

Quite possible they'll re-introduce it later, almost likely in fact. Get the all carbon sole construction dialed in first, then bring back movable weights in some form in a future release. Iterate rather than trying to boil the ocean. If the option to move weights is important to a player, stick with the SIM this year. It didn't magically get worse at midnight on Jan 19, 2021.

I also wonder if TM has learned through all of their fittings that the majority of players don't end up moving the weights at all. I'm sure they have plenty of data, so they'll know what sort of impact removing the moveable weights will have. It's not that unlike Twist Face. Through the data they've captured, TM knew Twist Face would help the vast majority of players, even if it wouldn't be a fit for a subset of players with specific impact characteristics.

For sure on MWT. Once mine is set I usually never touch it. The issue is from the fitter side where they can make the same driver work across multiple swing types with MWT and this limits them to hotmelt or lead tape if biases are needed.

Hard to argue with this performance.  Bummer there's no MWT, i'm sure they have their reasons but, i think they knocked it out of the park with looks and customization.   Can't wait to test it.

Bottom line is that just like SIM..SIM2 will sell very well!!

Those who don’t mind buying used will buy SIM1 from eBay just like every year...those who want new will not be able to get SIM at a discount because most places (here in the UK anyway) haven’t had any for months now!

All of the YT reviews are showing marginal if any gains....but guess what....they are hitting (mostly) out of the middle!

in the hands of an ‘average’ golfer I think there will be improvements over last year in forgiveness over the face....the weight saving from the sliding track will definitely mean higher MOI and forgiveness.

In terms of backwards step in fitting....my take on the range is that you have 3 different heads that cater for different shot shapes....if you want a slightly fade biased head then SIM2....Neutral head then SIM2 Max and if you want a draw biased head then SIM2 Max D....simple really!!

I think the biggest improvement from previous gens including SIM to SIM 2 is that the 2 face screws are now on the side so that may possibly explain why the face is hotter especially low & seeing the ball speed up so much in MN's video 👍

Very interesting, have to demo this.

I am getting another of my gamer shaft setup with an adapter soon. I play the 17m2. I plan to compare 17m2 to m5 and sim2 very soon to see if my trusty 17m2 will be replaced.
