I'll add one I've noticed recently...oddly combative and agenda like rant's started by suspiciously un-seasoned posters who immediately disappear without furthering their arguments.

Multiple ways: 

 

 

1.  Upon reading the title, I say to myself,  "I never would have thought that.  And, more importantly, I never would have said that." 

And no matter how hard I try to NOT open the thread, I do it anyway.   It's like watching a car fire. 

 

 

2.  When we are forced to compare two very different hypothetical things. 

Example: Had Gene Littler chosen the priesthood, would he still have had a better short game than Miller Barber had he chosen to be a car mechanic? 

 

 

3.  The thread that starts, "What happened to..........? 

 

 

4.  Looking for medical advice.   Are you kidding me?

I'm currently a 4 handicap and thinking with a couple of months of practice, I could go pro. Would it be a shorter path to the PGA by winning on the Asian or European Tour and should I just Monday qualify for a PGA event and win that?

Perhaps a bit off topic, but I remember a few years ago a guy bought some golf tees on line, and he posted pictures of them on this forum and wanted to know if they were counterfeit or not.
