Mp20 vs all current mizuno

Just recently got an mp20 blade after playing jpx900T for a couple of years

 

I notice the fattening of the upper portion of the blade on the short iron is a leap years advancement

I can flight the short iron lower and miss on the top portion of the face is bad, but manageable unlike other blade i played with such as vr pro 

 

Question is, how come this technology is not being carried over to the new jpx 921?

 

I for one felt the mp20 blade is leap years ahead of any current offering 

I dont think mp20 mmc even have this type of design?

Unfortunately that would be a question to ask mizuno. No club maker can cater for everyone as for everyone who wants a thin top line (or any specific criteria really), there will be just as many complaining the top line should be thicker. The hardest thing in golf is to stick with what works as we all just can’t help but tinker. Good luck.

Im not exactly sure what you mean but i have mmc 20 and i feel as you do... these are truly advanced for what they are. Im guessing the blade is this way as well.. only difference to me was the mmc were a bit more forgiving and softer imo but that might be expected as they are ment for different things.

It is a funny happening.  Some MBs are getting by far , easier to hit than their GI distance counter part.   Mp20 and ping blueprint being exhibit 1a. And 1b.   The weighting is done in such a way that they’re just easy.     Yet folks are afraid.    They don’t take into account that weight moved is still forgiveness and that weight being flat on the back has nothing to do with harder to hit. They refuse to see the entire pic as you have.

Making the upper portion of the blade thicker is a catch 22. More mass behind the ball (thicker blade) improves feel. More mass higher in the clubhead also raises CG. Higher CG is counterproductive for most golfers, especially if you have trouble hitting down on the ball. Higher CG will lower ball flight and increase spin. This works well for good ball strikers in the short irons. Also the reason why the top half if thinner in the long irons. Mizuno also did this to blend better with their T20 wedges

It is funny.  Some folks think if there's a hole in the back, its suddenly forgiving.  When you look at real MOI measurements, it can be interesting.  🙂

I think my MP20s are the best irons I’ve ever played. I tried the HMB, but I’m just not a fan. I want blades through the bag. I also found the 20s to launch a little higher then my 18s.

I’ve been staring at these for two weeks...don’t have to heart to play them on our muni rotations! 😅

 

I’ve hit the MP20 (non-copper) at the shop and it’s one of the best feeling and easiest (?) to hit blades in the market.  Two of my all time favorite blades are the Callaway Tour Authentic X-Prototype and the 2011 TM TP mb.  I thought those two were ahead of the game in their model years, and the MP20 just brings back those soft buttery feels and workability (not that I could do it on command!).  
 

If I end up selling the copper set it will be a hard decision to pick between the MP20 or the TM 7mb.
