Why Hogan never revealed his "true" secret. The reason might surprise you.

Recommended Posts

There was a video of Mac many years ago where his swing looked very wide and strong. Aided by youth as well but there was more of a languid flow to it and everything had freedom. A bit like a young George Knudson. Not as anchored and tight with brakes everywhere. I think it may have been on David Orr’s website or someone like that.

Not that any of his swings are bad. It’s like choosing your favourite Elk era.

hoganfan what’s going on with all the material suddenly dumped all over YouTube a while back? Which was nice.

The '86 Palm Springs footage with him in white shorts and t-shirt was his best swing ever, IMO (that I've seen).

I can only speculate about it.  I think Mac is living in Japan now and hasn't done a school in a while.  I guess some of his long time students who got kicked out of the program (like they all do), felt emboldened to put his stuff out there.  John Dochety recently got back into teaching after being away for a few years, so he's been posting a lot of stuff lately.

First off, I must say. My response is not in any way shape or form a disrespect to Mac's swing or his teaching. Nothing but respect to the Morad guys. You guys make the swing into science and that is freakin awesome!!

Ok now to my point. While to the naked eyes Hogan's and Mac's swing might look very "connected" and similar. This couldn't be further from the truth.

While Mac's swing does indeed hinge on connection, Hogan's does not. Don't believe me? Just look at their follow through. While Mac's is super compact and seems glued to his body rotation, Hogan's will fly away from his body freely just like a rope being sling away with centripetal force.

Consider these images of their follow through. Very different dynamic. Mac super connected to the big muscle while Hogan slings his hands arms unit away from his body. Notice the left elbow. They are both swinging an iron in these images.

Hogan's swing is a fluid hands arms dominated swing no different than Bobby Jones's or Old Tom Morris's. It just looks connected because it has no other choice is all due to what he took to his grave.

Don't kill me Morad guys. I'd say other than Hogan's, Mac's swing is the second best!

I agree. Mac folded much earlier than Hogan. I’ve never liked their braking into finish swivel. Hogan’s follow through is violent in comparison.
