I don’t see the point of a hoodie on the golf course but I also don’t oppose it. I wear hoodies to the golf range in cooler weather because it is what I wear casually but the draw strings and the hood flopping around is noticeable. If it is a warmth thing there are plenty of other options to keep me warm. I think it is a case of clothing manufacturers making “golf” hoodies and sending them to their players to market. And it seems to be working.

If you play in the winter and it’s 35 degrees, how does a hoodie not make sense??  You don’t notice it when it’s down and you are hitting a shot, but you certainly notice it when you flip it up for the ride or walk to the ball.  Athleisure clothes are pretty much accepted and embraced everywhere now. Why not be comfortable while still looking stylish?  Golfers are athletes now more than they have ever been.  They should dress in whatever clothes make them able to perform their best and that includes how ridiculous it is to wear pants on a 105 degree day.

I’ve played in a hoodie before during the winter. The hood doesn’t do anything but catch the breeze. I think a beanie is a better option to keep your head warm. Like I mentioned I’m not opposed to it, but I’m not going to run out and buy any.

Having played yesterday in 35 degrees weather I feel like a hoodie is a better option when it's a little warmer. Probably best around 50-60 when it's to warm to wear a beanie but you still get the cold blast every once in a while.

I'm not sure why you think being a gentleman is something that is old or outdated? Honor and respect for the game is something every golfer should have.  I love the game.  One way we show that is with our attire.  In games teams wear uniforms.  Golf's uniform is more formal than casual wear; aka things you can wear to the gym.  Hoodies are casual wear!

I don’t get why you think wearing a hoodie makes you less of a gentleman.

Our club just discussed this at our quarterly meeting and voted to update policy and allow players to wear "proper" hoodies with minimal branding or graphics.  Even the board was unanimous which was somewhat surprising as they're known for being much more traditional.   They called me out during the meeting as I was wearing a hoodie with the large Under Armour graphic on the chest as an example of something not permitted.

Wore the RLX washable cashmere hoodie this weekend.  I'm going to end up buying 2 more.  It's comfortable, warm, and looks stylish.  Wore it with a bladed collar shirt too.  I can't recommend that hoodie enough.

Have you washed yours at all? I’m a bit afraid to considering the cost.

I think if those with honor and respect for tradition left the game it wouldnt be called golf anymore.  Our fore fathers built it.  We dont need to trash it.  Just leave things alone that are already great.  Are you saying there is something wrong with how golf has been played for over a hundred years?  I am nothing in that equation....its the greatest game ever played Sir.  Let it be golf.  Nothing else.

Do you wear knickers out to the course when you play a round? Probably not, and that's because social norms and standards when it comes to attire end up trickling down into golf which has always been resistant to change. I don't look to the ghosts of Old Tom Morris or whichever Scottish dude you'd like to pick out of an old oil painting for what proper golf etiquette should be. Golf has enough barriers to entry, I'd rather not make clothing another one.

I personally dont play knickers.  Probably stand out just as much as a hoodie today.  But there are people that play them I know business sell them.  The renowned guy to play them I recall was Payne Stewart.  Maybe there is a reason out there why he chose to use them.  Or why does Bryson wear a throwback old style cap?  I like the old stuff (as well as new stuff) but no i dont own any.  But those are still golf attire made for golf.  As others have said the hoodie does not really serve a purpose.  Just is a different look, fashion statement, political statment, marketing ploy, etc etc... the trend or choice is not for me but it's a free country...I dont mean to argue or ruffle any feathers just sharing opinion...👍

I've been playing in a hoodie since last year, mainly after I realized untucked shirts do less harm to the course than not fixing your pitch marks and tossing cigarette butts on the turf.  But I like the ones that have the raised hood collar-kinda-thingy (not really sure how to describe it)  It covers my neck like a quarterzip would when zipped up, but without the stiffness and poking from the zipper.  Yeah, I'm picky.  Hood doesn't get in the way of my swing, I can understand how if it did, I wouldn't wear one.

I don't have any "golf" ones, that's just another reason to price gouge, my main ones are a Puma and a UA.  They've got little to no branding and have the fit of a quarterzip, so it's a much better look than an old baggy, beat up hoodie from college or something.  To me, some are ok to play golf, others are strictly for lounging around at the house.

I think its called a scuba hood style. I know what you mean! The Greyson Cokato hoodie that I have has a hood like that. Makes me feel a bit warmer.

As an update to my previous post, I picked up a Greyson Gotham Hoodie today. It fits looser than the Cokato, more like the fit I was used to on Nike XL but not quite as generous as the Greyson polos.

I really like the looks of a lot of Greyson clothing.  If it wasn't for the stupid wolf logo I would order their clothing.

I was surprised looking at older youtube videos that Tiger has been wearing that blade collar a long time.  Don't think that bladed shirt will fly at one of my local private pricey courses.  Hoodies won't.

Golf Attire

All players must be appropriately attired on the golf course and practice range at all times. The Golf Professional has the final determination of attire.

Men (and all male children): Shirts with collars and sleeves, slacks or golf-length shorts are considered appropriate attire. No Cargo Shorts are allowed. Shirts are to remain tucked-in at all times. Tank tops, tee shirts, mesh shirts, hooded shirts, sweat shirts or pants, warm-up suits, blue jeans or denim, swim wear, cut-offs, gym shorts, tennis outfits, or other athletic shorts are not permitted. Hats/caps may not be worn with peak backwards.

Women (and all female children): Golf dresses, skirts, slacks, golf-length shorts and blouses are considered appropriate attire. Halter tops, tee shirts, cut-offs, mesh tops, sweat pants, warm-up suits, blue jeans or denim, swim wear, tennis dresses, short shorts, or other athletic shorts are not permitted. Hats/caps may not be worn with peak backwards.

Shoes: Street, tennis, running or similar shoes, other than golf shoes shall not be worn on the course. Golf shoes with “soft spikes” are preferred by the Course Superintendent in order to protect the quality of the greens putting surface.

This is a hoot!
