Break from golf

What's the longest your kid has taken away from golf?  No swinging, no practicing, nothing.

9YO boy: Around 3 months during Little League in the spring. Been taking that kind of break every year since age 6.

Every winter.  Minimum all of December and January.  Some years like last year we can get out there in February.  Others not until March.

3 Months - Usually take a break after Worlds until January...school starting, then football & basketball...Usually fresh and ready to come back in Spring.   It takes a month or so to get back in decent form, but think the mental break has been worth the tradeoff for him.

This is the longest my kid has played since he was 12 because of injuries.  Has been 8 months.  Take away Covid and tournament golf 5 months.

Mine are usually October - February.  We might go out if there is a warm day in December or January.

We are in Alabama so can play year around. My son is notorious for going 4/5 months hard, playing a lot, practicing a lot, then taking a month or two off or really scaling back. It is not a bad cycle and he doesn't get burnt out.

My daughter and son hit balls or played holes 6-7 days/week from the beginning of the pandemic. They played several local and statewide tournaments over the summer and did well but now that school (and lacrosse) started, neither is that interested anymore. If we didn’t have PGA Jr League, they wouldn’t mind not picking up a club until next year.

I think a break is really healthy and probably beneficial; kids need to want to play and have passion for the game - hard if constantly grinding

wonderful to see so many like minded parents, 11 Yo goes really hard in the summer. After October just gym and recreational golf with the old man ( I am lovin it). Probably break through Jan get fitted in Feb.

 

He is a really good golfer and I am getting a lot of strange looks when I mention break, some folks even pressure me to sign up for US Kids like 2 hours away !!!

Covid took us out for about 2  months we were not allowed to even pick ups club and go outside.  Honestly though things are not back to normal by a long shot as shelter/food near range and gyms are not as easy to access. I pretty much just written this year off.

 

Other then that it usually is not more then 2 weeks. 

 

I live in Florida so this answer is far different then people who live in a northern state.  The reason you move to a southern state is so you can play summer sports years round and the summer is when you actually take more time off with travel because it too hot.
