2021 Callaway Apex MB, X Forged CB, X Forged UT irons (in-hand pics)

Recommended Posts

I've never really been a Callaway iron guy however, the ability to adjust headweight somewhere other than the hosel is very meaningful to a guy who must play graphite in his irons.  I'm due for irons and I'll be giving these a strong look.

I just love the look of these.  Looks like a lot of mass behind the ball.

I am mixed on these. The blade looks great, I want to hit it, but man, I cant get past the CB and UT  2-bolt Frankenstein look of these irons... perfect for an october halloween release though.  I want to hit them.

Good looking clubs.  I have to repeat that I'm disappointed (AGAIN) that Callaway has chosen to release the Apex MB with the X Forged CB apart from the rest of their Apex line which limits combo opportunities.

If I were in the market for irons and preferred Callaway I'd have to wait until the remaining pieces of their lineup will come out to test.

I think the only thing the Apex MB and the rest of the Apex line share is the name. They're also multi material like this X Forged CB.  If anything, the X Forged CB will likely pair better with the MB since it doesn't utilize the cup face that Apex does.  Ball speed and spin numbers should transition nicely from Apex MB and X Forged CB, at least according to the 2nd Swing video above.  Plus, this time around, it looks like the finish between the MB and X Forged CB match so it should blend really well aesthetically.

I am starting to like the look more than I did when I first came across pictures on the Callaway Japan site.  I'm not a fan of the look of the weight port on the MB but love the idea of being able adjust swing weight without affecting the center of gravity.  As for the CB, I like the look, kind of a no-nonsense industrial look, but I don't know what the point is in forging the body of a hollow iron that has a 17-4 steel face.

I thought the 2018 X Forged had too much offset, and it looks like the new cbs are just as bad, if not worse.  This is unfortunate, as the x forged line has had some excellent models.  Anyone hear any rumors of a dot version in the works that may help correct this?

As a previous gamer of 2007 X Forged and someone who thinks the previous version of the X Forged were just about perfect.....I do not like these at all.  I applaud the tech integrated for customization, but dang....ugly.   P7MC or JPX 921 Tour still top the lusty pure forged CB releases this year.

Obviously ill wait to see them but after seeing Kiz’s bag, I’m a lot less excited now. Why cant anyone make a 9 and a wedge that looks like a 7 iron.

You might be in luck, the New cobra blades are suppose to be made from that principle.  Hopefully they will make it more appealing from a cost standpoint.

Also from the one address position I saw from a straight down address position, the x forged cb looks good with not much offset. Either way I hope you find what you are liking for!

Its not just the offset, I played with Eye2's for a long time. I just hate the rounded shape on the short irons. We will see.

I just saw on Anthony Taranto IG that he is doing a "raw" set for Xander, you know those have to be "dot" heads...

Whoa, those things look so bad a**. With no face cup on these, I don't know that they'd need a dot set unless we're talking some other changes. It kind of sounds like the face plate on these is kind of similar to the dots. I am curious to see if his set is different though.

I want to compare them head to head when I get a chance. As soon as they're in the shop I'll be putting them up against the Apex Pro dots and some Apex MB's.
