Whoooaaaaa no one said we would have to prove any of this   (scrambles to change answer)

Interesting that so far at least, not one person has chosen the 300+ option. I thought everyone here at GolfWRX drove the ball a minimum of 350 yards? 🤣😆

You really should add a "scratch or below" grouping. Bet we'd see some interesting stuff there.

thanks, I thought the numbers in the article seems low, or short...

To save everyone time we should add "so i'm just a short knocker unlike everyone else here who hits it 350yds" in the answers section after every option besides the 300+ option

It would also save the next 150 people who respond from having to post it

The results actually seem to be accurate.  There are very few golfers on the planet that (key word being on average), drive the ball over 300 consistently.

Everyone in the comments on that article had 300 plus drives

One guy had ball speed about 10mph faster than tour average, and he said its slowed down in recent years.

Another guy said he carries the ball 300

Amazing!

Average is always interesting to figure out. What is my 'normal' drive is a bit more interesting and easy to estimate.

One big problem with this 'survey' is I vary about 30 yards based on where I play. My home course is at sea level in the PNW and tends to be lush and soft with very little roll out and very little carry. When I play higher elevation desert course, I pick up load of distance with the same SS.

Anyone who can carry it 240 can get a 300+ yard total under the right conditions. If your home course is a Nicklaus design in the desert you can get some silly average numbers.

1.4 cap currently and I put myself in the 260-280 group.

Game Golf tabs on my clubs put my year long average at 281 but I figure with some bad swings out there and some rounds not counted its probably closer to 270.

Driving and distance is usually not an issue for most of the places I play.

If I play in Denver or NOCA or a few slightly elevated courses I hit it further.  IMO - a more accurate average would be our distance at sea level.

We here lol.

I really want to know if Canadians hit it further on average. Serious question, laugh away if you want. All the boys that grew up playing puck in the winter and golf in the summer seem to be able to really move it. We have 7 WLDC's from our tiny little population and all the numbers on that survey seem low for the guys I play with.

Food for thought. Maybe I'm off my meds.

I'm at 9 currently. I'm 250-270 on average. So high end of 240-260 and low end of 260-280. Not sure what my Speed is with driver. If my AOA is good that day, I'm 260-280. If it's steep and or flippy, I'm 240-250 with no wind. Highly inefficient with driver. I suspect for whatever my speed is, I'd be 260 carry if I could ever figure it out.

47 and this is what my last session on T-man looked like. 265-275 carry when I hit it out of the proper spot. On course average over time will drop down 10-15 yards when I have to include the days when Mr. Snappy shows up for an entire round. Those are the days when my 3W and driver are only about 10 yards apart max.

Looking at my golfpad app stats my average is 217. I believe that's total distance. A couple months ago that was 215, so I've been hitting the driver more consistently. I will say that when I'm hitting it well I get about 230-240. Had one this morning that went 261 (slightly downhill). Oddly enough the drive I'm most proud of today was my 3rd drive that went 205. It had started to snow so the tee box had a little snow on it, my right foot slipped during transition, so the fact it went that far and in the fairway felt good to me lol.

I just scrape into the 6-12 category, although that category also includes my lowest, pre-shoulder and pre-back issues handicap of 7 so I guess it's representative of how I've been playing for years.

Arccos tells me that my driver's smart distance is 259 metres (283 yards), although those stats are only from this year when my back has been at its worst. Nevertheless I have managed a few good drives, including a 335 metre (that's 366 yards) monster which was probably a little down wind but was mostly just me managing to get things right on a firm fairway. Those kind of irregular drives skew the figures a bit, although I don't have a great understanding of just how they impact the Arccos calculations.

I don’t think that is crazy.  Hockey seems an even better training ground for golf than baseball.  When I see GG teach about sitting into a shot and turning it always looks like a slap shot...baseball is a better starting point than nothing but hockey does seem optimal to me.
