59 yr old, 2 handicap. I put myself in the 260-280 range as I typically carry the ball about 250, with a moderate height. I can usually count on a 10-15 yard roll, unless it is springtime or everything is wet and soft. This time of year.... +20-25. I can sometimes nut it a little farther, but with a sub 110 swing speed, this is usually all I got.

Whoooaaaaa no one said we would have to prove any of this   (scrambles to change answer)

Interesting that so far at least, not one person has chosen the 300+ option. I thought everyone here at GolfWRX drove the ball a minimum of 350 yards? 🤣😆

You really should add a "scratch or below" grouping. Bet we'd see some interesting stuff there.

59 yr old, 18 handicap.  I would have to guess an average of 220 with carry around 210.  I would think "distance" is VERY inaccurate.  Too many variables, altitude, fairway height, wind, downhill, uphill.  Really should be an average ball speed chart.  Still launch and spin variables but more accurate than distance.

I think it's a good time to point out that 65% of people surveyed believe that they are above average IQ.

85% believe that they are above average drivers.

I think understanding distance and math may be important to the survey.

Canada ranks 10th in math skills.

New Zealand is 21st.

Australia is 25th.

UK is 27th.

US is, well, uh, let's just say below these...

42 yrs old, handicap around 11-12.

Shotscope - Avg 245, P-Avg 272, Long 307

Yesterday I had a pretty standard driving day. Had the wind at my back on a couple of trouble-free holes where I could open it up a little so there were a couple that were above average.

Yesterday's Shotscope data:

Drives: 242, 253, 237, 291, 216 (tight fairway, defensive swing), 300, 249, 256, 198 (duck hook into trees), 239.

Avg: 248

Avg (high/low outliers removed): 246

I'd say my "normal" swing produces about 250-260. When there's no trouble around I can get it out to about 275, and when I crank up my "scramble swing" with favorable conditions I can push out to 300.

I drove the green a 330yd par 4 earlier this year in a scramble, but wasn't wearing my Shotscope watch for obvious reasons so I don't get to take credit for that one in my stats. I spent a lot of years trying to overpower courses and shooting 100+. Might work for Bryson, but doesn't work for me. I'll take my 260 in the fairway and shoot 80's.  🙂

Was getting 285-300 carry and 300-330 total with 167mph avg clubhead speed. Popped a few with over 300 carry and 340 total which was crazy.

I would still put myself into the 280-300 total zone but there is an argument for the 300+ if we are doing it on the simulator/driving range/no wind/no variables.

Currently an 8hc. Until the 2000’s we would guesstimate our distances by course distance shrubs or plates in the fairway. I once used to swing like JT, in that I came off the deck. Literally swung so hard my feet came off the ground. Much of that time my driver was a crappy Northwestern persimmon with a concave, smashed up face.  Since then, even with the newest technology, I’ve lost close to 40 yards off the tee, about 10-15 yards with irons.

I’d add also that I swing at about 75-80%. I’m most concerned with accuracy. The thing is I can still bench 200lbs and am fit. Just cannot push it like I once did, anymore.

Agreed on the average of 280-300. I must say of all the  years I've played I must be playing with all the short knockers because I haven't come too many people that are as long as this graph says lol

Keep in mind who is responding though. Not the general golfing public.

Ive played with at least three members here who hit multiple drives  in that range.  And several that were longer, some by quite a bit.

Ah you make a good point there. Not exactly the average player spending their time obsessing on these forums lol

My average carry with a driver is 270. I selected 280-300 working under the proviso that it would run out the usual approximate 15 yards.

However now winter is setting in over this side of the pond that carry will drop off a little and the run will vanish so 260 carry with no run will be a good drive.

I've run into the same thing.  I regularly played golf with several GEA members 15-20 years ago, and for several years, it was common for me to be the third longest member of the foursome.  Some days, I was the short knocker.  At the time, I was swinging at 110-111 consistently.

These were just random guys I met through the GEA forum.  Not cherry picking the longest from the group of guys I'd met.  The first guy I met, in the first round I'd played, hit a 320 yd 3w on a par 4.

It quickly opens your eyes to what's really out there.  🙂

I'm 34 and off +1.2 right now, I selected 300+, maybe a touch generous but in neutral conditions with some roll it's accurate.

I choose 280-300 because like most of the tour pro's, my drives that get out there 320-340 do so because of hard fast fairways.

My home course is bermuda fairways. I almost never get beyond a yard past the landing spot. Then, I'll go play another local track in the summer and, literally, be 50-60 yards longer (one last summer was +100 yards, for my PR drive). It's an eye-opener.

I dont think alot of ppl understand that its much harder to carry the ball 270 280 then one thinks... i average about 235... thats with a few shots going 250 260 maybe one 270+ if the stars align and good roll. Ive had some shots read 215 which was very suprising but true and not balloned either. You really have to have a perfect combination of clubhead and shaft and the right swing and speed and angle and centerface.

So, I believe the Arccos statistics are very misleading when comparing us to PGA Tour Pros!

Me, age 51, 5'-9" 185lbs ex hockey player who's been rehabbed the past 3+ years with two rotator tears, tore both elbow tendons and I have the typical lower back and right hip problems.
That being said at my best was I was +3 and now I hover between 2-4 GHIN. Good swing with 115mph SS avg. I'm in the 280-300 avg. I'll admit thats pretty good for my age.

Now I mostly play in Michigan where the usual drive either hits and stops between a yard and 15 yards from the impact point.

In fairness to all other golfers... the distance comparison gets way out of a direct apples to apples comparison is that I say 95% of us don't play courses like the PGA Tour where their drives are rolling out 30-50+ yards after carry because their fairways are rolled after mowing and rolling at a 10 on the stimpmeter. I argue this point every time the distance debate comes up. The comparison to the PGA Tour is not fair to the rest of the golfers around the world!

I like that we all answered this survey honestly because like many have said the impression is that all WRX'ers are flying it 315+.

I am currently a 3.1  47 years old and I drive the ball 220-230. I keep the ball in front of me and strong chipping game. I knew before I even submitted my vote I would be in a weird spot and 3.85% definitely qualifies lol.

I’m the exact opposite. Apparently I hit the ball too far to suck as much as I do.
