He is a pro athlete.  What do you get for winning a major?  What do you get for winning The Masters?  What do you get for being a multiple major winner?

Who cares if he can't sustain this.  He can catch lightning in a bottle for a year or two, do some damage, win some majors and then get back down to whatever is sustainable and comfortable and play like Webb Simpson.  He will be exempt into every Masters and still probably play well enough to get into every other major and be exempt on Tour.  He will show up and win often enough at the Puerto Rico open that he'll be fine.

I think we’re agreeing, sort of.
It’s a silly approach he’s taking in that Jack and even Tiger would never approach the game like this, they wanted long term success.

Speaking as an athlete myself, it’s quite a hard comedown when your python like arms and humungous quads loose a little size with age. It will affect his psyche.

If you can divorce the "athlete mindset" from the "business mindset" I think what he is doing makes sense.  There is no guarantee either way that he will have a golf career in 10 years.  Make the hay now.  Stack away the cash and let it grow.

The best thing I can relate it to is a running back in the NFL.  Make your money now because your career will be short.

In BDC's standpoint, anything gained beyond 5 years from now is just gravy.  He could live a very comfortable life, and do surprisingly little in the rest of his career, if he wins big now.

Where are you getting your statistics from?

Here is an excerpt for 2020 from PGA Tour inside 10 feet

1 1 Bryson DeChambeau 62 rounds 91.20% 1,080 putts 985 made

Inside 10 feet has little to do with his make % from 4 feet, which so far in the new season is terrible.

Last season it was really good from 4 feet, not very good at all from 5 feet, so far this year bad from 4 feet, not great from 5 feet - so in that neighborhood he's got issues.

He is pursuing a game plan that he has confidence in. It’s working.

I think the fact that he has so much confidence in it is as effective as the plan itself ; )

But, at Augusta, we have seen Sunday dreams turn to nightmares quickly.

Im wondering, per the OP, if they have any little tricks up their sleeves to mess with the bombers. Like 20 guys *averaging over 320 off the tee this year.

What more can they do?  They mow it back towards the tee to decrease distance.  Maybe they can bake it out so balls bounce and run like crazy.  You'd have some guys who could adapt and still drive it 340+ on certain holes.  You'd have still others who would hit shots that bounce and run into the pine straw or into a hazard.

I doubt they go opposite direction and mow it taller.  They'd adapt to that with approach shots.  It might stem some of the rollout but it would also aid them in staying within a smaller spot nearer where they land their drives.

It's a second shot course where the defense is the greens.  How much faster, harder, trickier can they make them before they won't hold a shot?

I like Bryson.   The only weakness I saw 5 to 7 tourneys ago was his short game might not be up to it.  He had the power but maybe not the touch.  He sure fixed that.  There are a lot of good players who will be at the Masters.  IF he wins it then more power to him.   People thought Bubba with two Green jackets meant Augusta need changing.

There are loads of guys who are as long or almost as long Bryson and can play.   Morikawa, Xander, DJ, Rory, Wolff, Champ, Phil, Tiger,  P Reed, Jason Day and others.

As I say, it’s just not golf. It’s a different game.

I’d like to see him playing with persimmon. Who knows he maybe great at that as well. Bring back the old skills into the game.

It is kind of funny that he goes about the game the way he does wearing that cap.  Almost like an un-intentional display of surreal humor.

The only way he could be any funnier is if he Bob Murphy'd it
