PING Hoofer Tour - Floppy magnetic pocket cover

Recommended Posts

First of all, let me say how impressed I was with how quickly PING shipped these out... website said allow 10 days, but I received mine in 3 days.  The bag really looks stunning (especially if you are a fan of PING)

But I was extremely disappointed to find that the magnetic pocket cover was too weak to keep the cover closed!  My Hoofer 2018 has a magnetic pocket cover that almost takes 2 hands to open.  But the Hoofer Tour’s magnetic cover flops open when I put the bag on my back - especially with when using the water bottle pocket.  Obviously this greatly reduces the usefulness of this highlighted feature. Given the premium cost of this bag, I expected premium quality!?!

Anyone else experiencing this problem or did I just get the one that was overlooked by Quality Control?

This experience will certainly  keep me from buying any more “Online Exclusives” from PING... next time will wait to see it in Retail when I can check it out myself before purchasing...

The specs on the Hoofer Tour's webpage say, "2 zippered, expandable water-bottle pockets", which leads me to believe that the slot into which you placed your plastic bottle of water wasn't meant for that purpose.  I think the zipper compartment below/behind that slot is where the designers intended bottles to be stored.

Ping moved away from the conventional open-mouthed bottle pocket to a new "zippered, insulated multi-use water bottle pocket" in both the 2020 Hoofer Lite and Craz-E Lite as well.

Appreciate that.. though even without anything in either of the expandable zippered pockets, the magnetic cover still flops open when the bag is carried on my back.

Mine arrived yesterday, and the magnetic pocket magnet is really strong.  I haven't tried to put water bottles in the side pockets yet, though.

Glad to hear!

With or without the water bottle, it’s important that the magnetic cover will stay closed when you aren’t intending to open it.

I ordered a strong magnet from Amazon - hoping I can use it to reinvigorate the magnets that surround the pocket.

My magnet is very strong even with a 32oz Gatorade and yeti tumbler on each side.  I wonder if yours was a manufacturers defect?  I would definitely call Ping to get it fixed.  They’re customer service people normally provide excellent service.

I'm jealous!

I did try calling PING - the rep was nice but no offers to fix it or suggest anything I could do to fix it.  He said he was going to check with a friend in the Product dept and email me... but nothing.

I just don't carry anything to/from the course in that pocket (I ride my motorbike with my bag on my back), but once I'm at the course, I can carry my range finder in it without much worry. 😎

Update:  the PING rep subsequently DID get back to me and offered to fix or replace the bag.  He sent me a Fed-Ex return label and I sent the bag back to PING.  Top notch customer service!
