3hybrid 20*

4hybrid 23* (or maybe 22*) not sure, but works like magic

5i 27* (thinking of dropping this) - i dont feel like i use it enough, or even can hit it consistently to its yardage. My 4Hybrid can do the job.

6i 31* bend to 32*

7i 35* bend to 36*

8i 39* bend to 40*

9i 43* bend to 44*

pw 47* bend to 48*

51* - thinking of bending to 52*

55* - thinking of bending to 57*

59* (thinking of dropping this aswell) - i think i dont use it as much as i should. and my other 2 wedges can do the job.

putter

would really appreciate your guys' input.

FYI - had to repost cause i think i chose the wrong topic area.

Unless you're walking and weight is an issue I don't see why you wouldn't have the full complement of 14 clubs. Instead of thinking yardages, I tend to think of shots I 'may' need during the round.

In my case, I have a 50, 56 and 58 wedge setup. I can pretty much do everything with the 50 and 56. The 58 doesn't really work for me from the fairway, but every now and then if the weather is crappy and the ground really soft, I may use my 58 in a pinch. There are rounds where I don't even use it - I'm not a flopper and prefer a chip and run when I can. There is nothing else I could replace it with in my bag, so I let it sit in there for the one occasion I may need it.  Same with my hybrid and 4 iron. I prefer the 4 iron off the tee and fairway, but like the hybrid out of the rough. Distances are a wee bit longer with the hybrid, but I tend to miss left with it (contemplating a utility iron to replace it). I could pull out the 4 iron and do everything with the hybrid, but if I have the space in the bag, then why not? Oh, I'm a walker that carries my bag as well, so two clubs really doesn't bother me, and just managed to break into single figure hcp this year (at a 9 at the end of the season here in Norway).

Hope this helps. 😀

Well the nice part is that it’s easy to try a 12 club bag, just pull out what you think you won’t use and see how it goes. I play 12 clubs now. I do walk 90% of the time but I don’t play 12 to save weight. If I want to lighten the bag I will usually just play 9 or 10 clubs.

As the previous poster said, I’d you have types of shots you need, maybe going 12 isn’t the best idea. I don’t keep a handicap but probably coke out to about a 19/20 or so. I am not worried about types of shots outside of punching out from trees until I get inside 100 yards. My concern is playing what my shot shape seems to be doing that day.

My irons now are 1-2 degrees stronger than my previous set and in my last set I almost never used my 5 iron so I didn’t buy a new 5. I may add one down the road, but so far a 21* hybrid and 26* 6 iron is a more than mani gable gap for me. They either get hit off the tee or if I’m that far away for a second shot, hitting the green is a bonus, I’m happy to land close and chip on.

Speaking of chipping on, I used to go set GW(50), 54, 58. I rarely used the 58 and left it home a bit. Now I have set GW(48), 52, and currently 56. I may bend it to 57 and call it done, or add an “in case of emergency” low bounce 60.

So I’m not really tied to the number of clubs per say. I am scoring at or better than my average with 12. Right now I don’t think adding a club or two would cause me to trend up or down. Every club in my bag has a job right now. If an “opening”  comes up, I’ll fill it.

I would say unless you are looking to lighten the load in your bag because you carry, there's no need.

That said, I carry 14 clubs and kinda wish I could add a 15th or 16th club, not take any away.

22 to 32 is a big gap, I would find something that you can hit in that range.

I would carry more clubs if I could so I don't see why you wouldn't take full advantage.

I have 12 in my push cart bag and 10 in my stand bag (both in my signature below).  I have my gaps covered and want for nothing.  If simplifying to 12 makes things easier on you, so be it.  Good luck on your decision...

If you're hellbent on adjusting the lofts, I'd consider going 6 (30*), 7 (35*), 8 (40*), 9 (44.5*), PW (49*), SW to (54*), and LW (59*).  Then, consider getting a 25* hybrid to fill the gap between your 20* hybrid and your 6 iron.  Just a thought...

sounds like you need a 5 hybrid or maybe a u85 5 iron and then you'd be golden.

Good points overall.

In a given round, I may only hit 10 of 14 clubs. But over a month, I will hit all 14 as I vary courses.

Also, I'm concerned about @Yoda555's potential gap between 4H 23* and 6i 31*. Maybe a 5H* or... softstep your 5i for better launch?

yeah that was a bit of a concern too (4H and 6i gap) i but 🙂 hitting yesterday seems great with the addition of the 5H which fit perfectly between the 4H & 6i. also i found a wonderful 60* wedge - cleveland tour action that i threw in. all smiles here. Thanks for the wisdom. cheers nd be safe.

Played 14 and dropped to 12 earlier this year.   Was playing pw then 52, 56 and 60.   Went back to pow, 52 and 58 which I previously played and was comfortable with.   Knew the yardages for various swing lengths and less confusion in my mind with which wedge to use.

Dropped two hybrids (20 and 23) and switched to a 7 wood which I can hit multiple distances and going to strengthen loft of my 5 iron to slightly narrow the gap.

I walk and carry so bag is lighter and actually have dropped from a 10 to 6.
