Decent field on a course on Garda Lake I know very well, pretty long from the tips but very enjoyable. Hopefully will be a fun tournament with a lot of birdies!

Chervò Golf San Vigilio (Pozzolengo, Italia) - Golf - Gardasee - Gardasee.it - Lago di Garda Hotel per Vacanze e Weekend – Hotel Benessere, Appartamenti, Agriturismo, B&B

Would it be fair to say that it's actually a course on a pretty decent field....?

(Nb. I'm fully aware that the ET is somewhat restricted in where it can operate atm)

At least is an improvement compared when Calcavecchia came to play just because he got married on Lake Como the following Monday 😄

That's Limone, one of the many beautiful cities around the lake 🙂

I've been there, beautiful place, Limone sul garda isn't it? Italy is my favourite country to visit, would love to go back to the lakes one day.

Another ET course with little or no defence. Very bland. I switched off. A bit concerned as what Italy will provide as a Ryder Cup venue.

really good wine and food? ... sultry chats with italian women (or men)? ... beautiful scenery? ... the course isn't the show at the rc ... the competition is ...

Dumb.

Why is it dumb? It's an allowed local rule by the R&A/USGA for many many years that most courses enact when permanent overhead powerlines are in the line of play. The player under the ROG has no choice but to replay the original shot from as close as possible to the original shot w/o penalty. If the local rule is not in place then the player is SOL and has to play it as it lies.

The course I play in the winter has landing lights for the local RAF base positioned on the Course. They don’t have a local rule in place if you hit them and I have never understood why.

Decent course, but I do prefer the Gardagolf course two years ago where Molinari and Olesen had their fight. As a TV golf experience. You were really aware of being in the alps, near the lake. Great elevation differences, distinctive holes with a personality, great views of the lake and the mountains.  The course this week could be like anywhere in europe.

Yes but again, remember the bubble.  Is there a hotel large enough to keep everyone there?  The way some countries are going, we should be glad they are playing.  The "they could be at a better course" argument really needs to be put away for this season.

Euro tour has a lot going for it; way better production, commentary (it’s not even close), and coverage. It’s so nice to watch golf without the commentators foaming at the mouth, raving about distance and offering nothing else. For a bonus they play in all sorts of weather week in and week out. Toughen up the courses a little and for my money it’s a better product than World Long Drive... er PGA Tour. I can’t express how bored I am by the long ball.

I'm a proud American and I agree wholeheartedly. The PGA is tacky in comparison and the commentators are bland at best. Most importantly, the Euro guys would never wear ankle socks.

So how many fighter jets have you picked off on an approach shot there? Hitting one plane would have been better than a HIO! :classic_biggrin: My home course in high school had a decommissioned Nike missile site on the outside perimeter of the course.

We were able to to go down into the abandoned launch batteries as they were wide open for a while. Western PA back in those days (early 80's) had multiple closed Nike missile sites in the area. That site was remediated some time later and is now a giant paved over parking lot for a local business.

Story time and threadjack aside I learned about this particular rule way back in my high school days. On the 2nd hole on our home course a giant low hanging power line came into play from the right side of the hole and crossed the fairway heading towards the green. Was playing a practice round with some teammates. Hit an approach shot from the right rough that nicked the power line and ended up close to the hole (yes I missed the putt).

None of use knew the rule and we continued on. Told our coach what happened after the round and he gave us a teaching moment on the rule. Glad it didn't take place in a real match. Our high school matches at that point and time were 5 simultaneous 9 hole stroke and match play events. Team low stoke play total received an extra match point. I would have been double penalized on the same hole under different scoring formats. It's all 5 player stroke play matches now.

You dont have to see it that way. There will be other Italian opens in coming years, And I would really like to see the gardagolf course as a venue again.

First thing in the morning just before shooting hours, opening day many years ago when my now retired 13 1/2 year old golden was a youngster, we watched a rooster flush from the middle of some CRP and fly right into a power line out in front of us about 100 yards or so - ouch (never seen that happen before or since).  A few minutes later, sent my boy after it - no shot fired, the rooster didn't get a "do over" but we got the "birdie"!

Here he is upon checking into the motel on his last trip to South Dakota - joy and anticipation (and he always got the bunk beds, but ended up on mine every night, lol).

Gardagolf is another league compared to Chervò

Next Opens will probably be around Rome because of the Ryder Cup, regarding Gardagolf  it really depends on members, if they want to give their course away for 3 months, which I strongly doubt
