Ping 2021 Irons

great stuff @halfsumo

Here’s my Arccos numbers with Ping G 5-PW and Crossover 4i (listed as 4h)

I think the only thing that looks out of whack is my five iron and 9i?

I randomly only need to hit that about twice a summer and there’s probably a shank in there so the data is not correct? That’s 205-210 club

No idea how 9i is same as 8?

given that, you’d steer to Mizuno because distance isn’t a concern?

if I picked without a fitting, I’m blindly go i500 retro lofts?

With the new sticks, I want something that flies higher and is more consistent.

Mate, the last thing you need is hollow irons. What you need is something with a better front-to-back dispersion. It really doesn't look like you need to chase yards. Get something you're comfortable hitting, but you will help your scores the most if you find something that hits the ball the correct height, and a more predictable length. I know these Arccos things can be a little off, but have your fitter focus on predictable lengths, and you'll hit more greens, and miss closer with easier chips.

I'm just as concerned about the 54 yard gap between 4h and 5i. Goodness mercy.

Did you see my disclaimer?

a few of those clubs don’t get hit often, so it’s not perfect data right mow. Only have 15 rounds on Arccos?

My Ping Rep told me i59 will be expensive, that points out to it being hollow IMO.

I am under the impression we will have more info beginning of June.

It says forged in the "cavity" and the as e.g.Blueprints and Anser irons (years ago), forged PING irons always were expensive. If they replace the iBlades I just beg for "real" forged and not i500 hollow "we-forged-one-piece-and-call-it-forged" if that makes sense

Yeah I hope so too, Pings hollow irons have felt horrid so far, but I do trust Ping wouldn't make a bad feeling iBlade replacement.. They have now had 5 years to design these

Let's hope these stay in the tour players bags, that would somewhat validate they feel good.

These can't be hollow, right? I can't imagine Hovland (or any PING pro) playing a full set of hollow irons. Usually it's only just a 3 or 4 iron replacement with the i500. I'm hoping these are a one piece, forged, small players CB (thinking s55 size/shape).

I think your probably right, only way to make a hollow head feel good is to insert some sort of filler inside the head and I believe TM and PXG hold those patents..

Blueprint for me was a hotter face than iBlade so a modern players iron face can be done in 1 peace, but I don't know how forgiving they can make them that way, iBlade was almost identical in forgiveness compared to i200 because of the way it is build.

Interesting that Hovland switched.  He had iBlades initially (at least a partial bag), but reportedly they didn't give the launch angle he wanted, as they went too high and too much spin rate.  He reportedly went with the i210's because they gave him the launch angle he was looking for (after a sole grind).

If these bring down the spin and launch angle, decent forgiveness and feel of BP's, Ping will have a winner.

TM and PXG may be able to patent their particular polymer but any company can produce its own filled club head. No company can land a patent that stops other companies from creating similar but different designs. Nike made a filled head years ago, so did PRGR (Japanese company.) Callaway has its microspheres, which is basically a perforated polymer. Ping has gone the route of the external CTP (custom tuning port) in clubs like the i210. It is removeable and changeable in weight, making it better IMO.

iBlade replacement with a weight screw in the toe side of the head????

Seems these have to be a hollow-head design or why place that screw out there instead of just tungsten in the toe like so many other designs?

But I agree with the previous posts, hard to believe Hovland would put a full set of hollow-headed, i500 type irons in play.

Interesting to see where this goes.

Bluepints also has the toe screw and that is to control the swing weight from my understanding.

Finau tested the i500 when they were first released in pre tournament rounds so I'm not shocked to see Hov doing the same. Curious as to where these will fall in Ping's line.
