Bay area golf clubs for 30s

First post after having been a lurker for a while..

 

I'm a (almost) 30yo and finally considering joining a private club in bay area. Because of where I live and work, I'm looking for places around the peninsula area and these names came up — OC, lake merced, green hills, bay club, stonebrae.

 

the OC seem pretty well discussed in the forum and elsewhere, so I think I have a pretty good sense of it. The fee and monthly dues actually seem pretty reasonable (perhaps because you pay for every round of golf) and has probably the best non-golf facilities. However, sounds like good tee times are harder to get for downtown members and the application process / wait is quite a lot of work

 

I'm curious if anyone has more to say about other clubs (LM? Green hills? bay club golf membership?). LM seems really great for golf, but doesn't have much else and not sure what the vibe is like. Don't know too much about green hills other than it has a mackenzie course and more amenities than LM. I'm also considering Bay Club as an option where I'd have access to all the gym/other sports facilitates across the bay with access to a private course (although it won't be as nice as other clubs mentioned).

Green Hills has a number of membership options, here is what they provided last year when I played a tournament.

Following along here, I was about to make a similar post! Looking for opinions on Stonebrae mostly. I’m on the Peninsula as well OP, and for the value Stonebrae has had my attention but not sure how the overall experience is!

If you are looking among the list in the original post today and willing to be a little patient I would *strongly* consider Lake Merced. It has a big renovation by Gil Hanse starting now or very soon and will be under partial/full construction for a year. But I think the result will be excellent and it's likely the price will go up afterward.

Drive an hour down south and go to Cordevalle.  It's an absolute no brainer.  They have the same sand as Augusta, all men's locker room / bar , food/drink delivery to your cart during play plus great spa / hotel stay amenities...

Yup and the setting is absolutely beautiful in the hills... Definitely better than playing between houses at most of the CC's in Silicon Valley (San Jose, Silver Creek, Almaden, and others). Only issue is traffic on 101 can get horrendous at times. For young professionals, initiation is around 50K with 12K annual dues, last I heard. After age 40 or 45, it's 90K with 17K dues, I think.

Plenty of great options, but don’t overlook Cal Club as well.  Seems the further you head south, the more expensive it gets too.  My brother is a member at Green Hills.   Played it recently and it’s a fun course, except for the one temporary tee box, it was a great round of golf.  Menlo Park GC is really nice as well.
