New Taylormade TP5/TP5X on the way?

I’m sure everyone is seeing the price drops on the TP5/TP5X everywhere.  Is anyone hearing about a new version coming soon? I believe it’s been 2 years?

I agree that they're due for an update.  However, I must say, the TP5 is such a great ball for me that I hope the changes are small.  Definitely a good time to buy a few dozen with the price reduction.

Current ball will be closing in on its 2 year cycle. I'd expect a new ball in the spring. I love the current TP5 but wonder what type of improvements we'll see to the TP5x. TP5 seems to be the ball of choice for most now including the Tour players.

There is a new ball coming out. My teacher is on staff and from what he’s told me the new ball is supposed to be phenomenal. I believe maybe a dimple update is one of the new characteristics, I think he said something about the number of dimples and he mentioned something about the ball, specifically the TP5 being able to retain speed and spin? Not sure exactly how honestly but I’m going off recall of his 2nd hand account. Take from it what you will.

I hope they increase the durability, I stopped playing them because a few hard wedge shots and the cover was torn up. I could never get though even 9 holes with the same ball.

never had that happen all year with brand new MG2 wedges and Pix. Probably scraping them thin

I haven't had that happen with the white versions.  However, the last dozen I had of the yellow TP5s (could have been just a bad batch) tore up super quickly with solidly-struck wedges.  That was the first time I tried the yellow TP5s, so I'm hoping it was a bad batch rather than a consistent issue with them.  It was very disappointing though.

The yellow is bad. Like my kids painted them with water color bad. Not sure how those ever passed any sort of quality test.

I still have a couple of dozen of the generation before the current one (the one with the terrible alignment line) to get through before I start to whittle down my inventory of "new" ones.

That's what happens when you stop spraying the ball off the tee.

I dunno....I put the yellow TP5 into play at during the fall here and honestly have no complaints.  Visibility was good, and durability was expected.  No issues on normal play, but hitting a tree or a cart path would scuff them up.

TP5 / X white were solid. Great ball. Wasn't a huge fane of the alignment aid but, I also don't use it that much so, whatever.

TP5X Yellow was not good. Very not good. Like, I emailed TM with pictures of 3 different balls that the cover were RIPPED (not scuffed) ripped off. I put a hole in the cover and saw the next layer of the ball. I don't know if TP5 followed suit.

Only things I could see maybe being fixed is finding a happy medium between the two balls. Both are equally awesome but I was always switching back and forth between the two with trade offs between distance, feel, and spin. I want the ball that would be directly in the middle of the two. I don't need help with distance, or spin, and like that softer ball but, wouldn't mind getting another 5 - 15 on the drive.

I’m wondering why the shortage almost everywhere of the TP5x Pix 2.0 balls.  They just came out this year so wondering why such a shortage in a lot of stores and with Taylormade themselves.  They’ve been sold out for a while even before the current sale.

I do like the Pix.  Don’t need to mark my ball as I’m the only one I play with that games them.

The tp5x ball is the longest ball I have tested but just not enough spin so if they could combine the tp5x and tp5 I think it would be the ultimate golf ball so hopefully they figure out a way to do so

Agree with you; the X is silly long.  If you are a high spin player (and I am) it's hard to imagine a better ball.  I know for a lot of guys, the X doesn't spin enough.

My issue with the TP5x is the feel off my putter.  Just not a fan.  And I can't seem to get the ball to play nice with the short chips/pitches around the green.  Definitely not the ball for me.

I've played the TP5 since last year when I needed a lower launch with the M5.  This year I probably should have tried the X with the SIM, but had so many left over TP5's I just stuck with it.  Now with the sale I am trying some TP5X's of course, and hoping the new ones are good middle ground.

I love the current gen TP5X! I can't wait to see what they come up with next. I'm hoping they can eliminate most of the seam, thats about the only thing I don't like about the TP series, and that's VERY minor.

I need to try out the TP5's.... I have a box TM sent me that I haven't even hit yet.

I agree about the lack of durability of the yellow ones though the TP5 does seem to hold up a little better than the TP5X.  That said, I strongly prefer the shade of yellow they use vs. the color of the yellow ProV1 which is the other ball I game from time to time.

You are absolutely correct on the tour pro ball usage. DJ is using the TP5x, but according to a rep at The Kingdom, most are using the TP5.
