Bad look

For some time now I have seen the growth of wearing short or no show sox with long pants. Now I'm an old guy brought up to never let your leg show with trousers. I know I am in the minority here but I think short Sox and pants are a bad look.

I think the short Sox come about to not have a "farmer tan".  How did they ever grow to every day wear?

You must lose your mind at people wearing shoes (loafers) without socks.

I tend to swap based on climate.  Short socks in summer and sometime around October I’ll go to full length.

I almost lied and said I wore long socks with shorts and short socks with long pants. But I figured somebody would hemorrhage on me.

I usually wear short/athletic socks with golf shoes, regardless of my choice of pants or shorts. As long as the socks aren’t white, I’ve never considered it a bad look, but I’m probably younger than most here. It’s always seemed more comfortable to me that way. Now, I would never wear shorts socks at the office with loafers or slacks, but that seems like a no brainer.

This has nothing to do with the Tour or golf. I am a young man and the only time my socks make it past my shoe line is if I am wearing a suit, in which case they will be the most colorful and extravagant socks possible. I play with some older fellows, so I might hem my trousers up a bit to distract them in the winter months

I see young folks wearing no show socks with long pants and other young folks wearing crew length socks with shorts.  Such rebels.  🤨

It depends entirely on the kind of pants. If you're wearing actual slacks you're 99% of the time going to look better with full length socks. If you're wearing chinos and so on, you have a lot more leeway. If I'm wearing khakis, especially very lightweight ones and it's a warmer day, I'll often go with no shows.

Realistically it varies as well by how clean your look is and how well you're able to pull it off if you go for something different. It's a fashion-forward/trendy thing right now to wear shorter socks with even dress slacks/suits, but that's assuming the pants are tailored well. It also assumes you can pull it off. Wearing short socks with slacks that don't fit your body type appropriately will just make you look even worse.

Fashion is like art, and is subjective. As long as you respect the rules of the course you play I probably won't have much to say about what you wear out there.

To close, you're not ever going to convince me this:

I started wearing ankle length in the summers after seeing Poulter do that on the course. Much cooler under slacks and collared shirt. I don't care if someone notices my legs, hairy as they are.

his open championship outfits when he used to let the public vote on clothes were beyond awesome...

these pants were my favorite....the stitched jug on the pant leg is epic

I'm a very young and stylish man and I agree. Other people have noticed the late 90s early 00s golf shirt trend these guys are wearing. Maybe its just gen Z being ironic as usual.

I like the return to the subdued colors or the 90’s.  Looks like they’re even going back to the more relaxed fit as well. Also good in my opinion. That tight euro-fit is not good for all body types - especially when it comes to the pants.

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
