Two questions here: JPX Tour vs MP MB's, and 919 Tour vs 921 Tour

I currently game MP20 mb's and I love them to death, but may be looking for the ever-so-slightest bit more help. Super locked into player's look, and definitely sticking with Mizuno.

That said, does anyone have any personal experience or knowledge about the 921 or 919 Tour against the MP20 blade? Is there anything to be gained in the "help" department with the JPX or are they virtually the same snack in a different wrapper?

Also, some general comparison between 919 Tour and 921 Tour, as if I do switch, may be looking into 919's to save a few schmeckles.

Thank you!

I have played the MP 20s and the 919T. I have hit the 921T in a fitting session ( off grass).

My experience, from a performance perspective only, was the Tour offered enough help to make the move worth it for me. I'm a 5 handicap, who would say ball striking is a stronger suit, but I have my days were I need the help. Personally, I found there to be little difference between the 919 and the 921, and that honestly maybe because I think the 919 was so good.

From a total package perspective, it's hard to beat the MP20 feel, they just plain feel good. The Tours feel good, better than some other companies, they just don't feel as good as the MP. It really depends if you really want a little extra help. Personally, someone who usually overspends on golf, I'd go 919 in the shaft that fits me to save the coin, I also think they look better.

In my experience I found the 921 Tours to be more forgiving than the 919 Tour.

919 Tour had a lot of heel/toe weighting. In the 921 Tour pushed the weight all around the cavity.

The answer is dependent on the strike tendency of your misses. If your misses tend to be a touch thin and/or towards the heel, you will likely see some, but not much, improvement in the outcomes of your misses. If your miss is higher on the face and/or towards the toe, the difference in outcome between the MBs and the players cavities will be more pronounced. If your misses are primarily face angle related or caused by catching it fat, there probably won’t be much between them.

I bought a set of 919 tours coming from a set of MP5 blades.   I’ve been pleased with the tours in the 10 rounds I’ve played them. They do have a different feel off the face versus the MP line I will say that,  it’s more if a snap sound/feel on pure strikes versus a soft marshmallow when you hit it on the screws with the MP line.

919T was a little longer for me. And gave me more confidence coming from a players iron compared to the MP20.

The feel, its nice, but it is not the same as the MP20 when flushed. To me it almost feels like the face/ Cavity "bends" around the ball or springy. If that makes sense.

Probably in my head.

But 25 rounds with mines and no complaints. No need to search for more in the 921.

This is exactly what I was thinking, to the tee. Thank you for your response as I couldn't possibly resonate more. I love the Mb's, every single pure strike is just unfathomably good, but it's gonna be a cold and soft winter and these hands are prone to the occasional thin missile. Wish I could find some unused 919's, but I'm definitely looking around!

Watch for eBay sets from global golf.... Anything in excellent condition will be nearly new.  My set still had plastic on the three and four irons.  The seven iron had been hit maybe 3 times in a shop.

just a question, any reason you're not considering mp 20 MMC? They're almost identical to the jpx tour's but will have the better feel and plenty forgiving.

I feel like the MP20 MMC gets over looked in the Mizuno lineup. I hit the JPX 921 Tours at my fitting.. They felt good and performed fine but the MMC performed just as good and felt even better. One thing worth noting is that the MMC have stronger lofts that I think they should have kept more traditional, IMO. Can always have them adjusted, though.

Agree with both of these on MMC. Regarding the stronger loft, if you bend them to 4* gaps working off of the 46* PW then you will remove some of the offset through the low and mid-irons and get even more of a player iron look at address. I think they always intended for that to be done with blending them into MB sets. Also, since OP owns MBs now, I'd like to think he could just get MMCs from 6 or 7i up and do the same loft adjustment. I'd like to think that somebody who loves the MP20 MB and is looking for a touch more help doesn't need help on the PW or 9i.

Regarding 919T, my experience is limited to hitting them once, but I didn't care for them and I love the MP20 MB and MMCs. Maybe it was an off day, but there was no reason to consider them further. Hope this helps.

Thought that too, but during my fitting I couldn't seem to find any sort of groove with the MMC. Could have been turf interaction, the weighting as a result of the multimaterial construction, or anything. Just didn't love them. I have since purchased 921T in the 4-6, and keeping MP20 MB in 7-P. I think it combo's best for my game and the distance gaps are perfect. HMB too chunky, MMC didnt agree with me, MP long irons will stay in the garage for now. 921T Like the juuuuust right bowl of porridge!

Yep, keeping 7-P in Mp20 MB. just looking for help in the long irons. I, like most here, am a tinkerer, and have been through HMB and MMC long iron testing. I appreciate the feedback, certainly contributed to my final decision!

good plan. Cant really go wrong with any of the players option for Mizuno

it was the opposite for me. MMC I really found a groove and was flushing it during my fitting, 919 Tour's I didnt get along with. They weren't hard to hit but every combo we tried didnt give me anywhere near the dispersion of consistency as MMC's
