Cure RX3F Putter improvement

I've had this putter for two seasons now and taken a good deal of ribbing about it...it's big, ugly, and non conventional.  Naturally, I could care less...I'm putting better than with my Edel and really enjoying it.

 

Three weeks ago, I made a slight change after thinking about Bryson's arm lock set up and basically have replicated his stance (lead arm straight and locked) and adjusted the lie angle to its maximum vertical position.  If you didn't know, the RX3 has an adjustable lie angle feature that allows it to be set between 62-80*.

 

Honestly, at 80*, it feels like it is at 90*, but that's prohibited.  Anyway, I have literally never putted better...had a 4 birdie day yesterday, ran in two other long putts, and lipped two other birdie putts from bad reads.  Zero three putts and every putt threatened the hole.

 

I don't know what to make of Bryson, but I am sold on "simplifying" my mechanics, if that's what it would be called...just thought I'd suggest this for anyone interested.

 

And like most here, now it's got me thinking about upgrading the shaft....the RX3 is weight adjustable, too and I'm playing it at 400g+.  It's a beast.  Thinking maybe a straight shaft instead of a double bend and something as stiff as I can find...KBS possibly, but was also thinking UST Frequency Filtered...but am I crazy too think a 10-15 year old tech is the right way to go...?

So, did a little experiment on my RX3F...new shaft.  Had a spare (straight) steel shaft and was about to toss try it as opposed to the dual bend neck.  Cure Putters was kind enough to send me another hosel insert (which is how they do the adjustable lie feature.

 

As I went to grab the epoxy, I noticed a pile of spare shafts...one was a Recoil 660 in F3.  Ran out and got another Lamkin Sink Fit Pistol and now I have two easily swapped shafts for it.

 

Feel is slightly softer, which I wasn't looking for, but the straight in shot is definitely an improvement with the arm lock style I'm now using.  Ball is starting on my line very well and overall I'd give this setup the edge.

 

Lesson for me here is that experimenting IRL means far more in these nuanced areas (putter shaft) than debating it in your own mind.  Cheap experiments can yield great results, and so far, so good.

how is the setup doing?

Have a few rounds and still believe in this setup.  I'm going to play it for the season and see no reason why it won't be just as effective.  As we came out of the winter, I did immediately notice that the feel was "improved" over what I was expecting.  Sort of like a pleasant surprise...an "oh yeah, I made that change".  

 

It's weird, so many exotic shafts are debated and we forget about our putters...we don't even talk about the feel that we're looking for from a putter shaft - graphite is an untapped possibility, particularly with the amount of shafts many of us have laying around...but, I suppose that's because there's other factors: face balancing, bends and double bends, etc.  I'm sold on the straight shaft, arm lock way of thinking.  Simple mechanics is pretty hard to argue against.
