I was down in my local shop the other day here in Finland and thought back to this discussion so I snapped a pic. It amazes me Wilson has zero pesence in a golf galaxy when every golf shop Ive been in

Seriously. Every time a thread is started about Wilson equipment, it ultimately devolves into a pissing match about Wilson being a big box store brand. I've played Wilson clubs off and on for the past

Here are the specs for the new Wilson CB irons.

image.jpeg.17e78bc54fe1cdb2200d493c79b6d187.jpeg

Standard lofts and low bounce. I expected they’d go 1-2 degrees stronger in loft but it is clear they want these to blend with the blades.

They look really good, better than the new CB Srixons and Callaways IMO.

Hard to find a whole lot wrong with those. Beautiful looking irons.

Even though they have incorporated a lot of the contemporary angular looks from competitor's models - Srixon, Mizuno, etc. - Wilson manages to soften the contours enough that it still looks good.

Beautiful irons, lofts are perfect, can't wait to bag these. After playing the V4 and now on my second set of V6's I am just assuming the performance will be fantastic.

Owning the V6's I'm going to have to hit them to see if they are any upgrade at all.

Never played Wilson but so far it looks like they've nailed it in every aspect - looks, lofts, price.

I think as equipment continues to become more expensive, and people are gravitating towards DTC more and more, this provides a nice option right in the middle.

The lofts are my favorite though, I'm glad they kept it "traditional" or at least the same as the blades.

Playing MP20s which I love but it's hard to combo the irons due to such jacked lofts in the MMC/HMB.  I would love some help in the 4-6.

Totally in for keeping tabs on this, hope the performance is as good as the window dressing so far.

My understanding is that Wilson has a much better rep/presence in Europe than the US. Not sure about Asia/Australia.

Maybe, I have no idea. I wish them well. They have made some changes recently regarding their marketing group. Maybe that will do them some good.

As far as Europe, or at least Finland, Wilson is the same as the other big brands. If you go into a golf shop here Wilson will have a display/racks the same size as any of the other manufacturers, and sometimes bigger (than for example Ping, Mizuno or Cleveland/Srixon at one store I know). The course nearest to me is the base for the regional rep. I see them at demo days, clinics, etc.

Is this not the case in the US?

I'm in Canada and Wilson has only a tiny bit of shelf space compared to the big brands and has essentially no marketing presence.

The most exposure they have had recently was with Driver vs Driver on the Golf Channel.

I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at a set. They look very nice too. I honestly prefer some aspects of the Srixon finish over Wilson's. In the ideal world, I'd get a set of the Wilsons with Srixon sole grinds and JPX 900 finish - but that's just me and that's just today.

Wilson's reputation has surged on their players irons in recent years. Watch any review of the V6 on youtube, or the staff model blade. The V6 is 4 years old now but a couple of years back won the most wanted players iron. Are you just not paying attention?

He didn't say wilson irons had a tarnished rep. Wilson as a brand had a mountain to climb yet in terms of customer perception. For as good as their irons are, they still have to prove to consumers that they're more than the company that outsourced their driver R&D to reality show participants. More than box sets and cheap putters.

On top of that, they need to get some shelf space and marketing to actually get the good word out.

They look pretty good though too busy, wish they would drop the script "Wilson" stamping from their premium clubs and only go with Wilson Staff or the W/S logo. It brings on memories of horrible golf balls and the period of time in the late 90s/early 2000s when it seemed like they had no hope of their golf line surviving beyond entry-level sets and the like.

Tarnished? Hardly.

Under represented? Surely.

Based on the excitement and positivity seen in multiple threads here about the new irons, I think saying they have a "tarnished" reputation is a stretch. Are they seen in the same light as Callaway or Ping? No. But nor are they looked down upon like a Warrior.

Too many people equate Wilson with cheap boxed sets, which is absurd given Callaway, Cobra, and so many others offer discounted sets. Wilson/Staff has had a solid showing for quite some time. It's posts that call them "tarnished" that helps perpetuate that myth. Yes they absolutely could be doing a better job of brand awareness and their distribution needs to be improved. But neither of those would equate to calling them "tarnished".

I am a little surprised that only one person has mentioned the apparent incorporation of Wilson's "Fluid Feel" hosel on this CB model. To the best of my recollection, this is the first Wilson CB to incorporate it. The FG 100s had it, and so do the current Staff Blades.

Two things of note about this:

1. The Fluid Feels were some of the most storied of Wilson tour blades back in the day.

2. Almost no other OEM has followed suit - Callaway being the exception but they clearly went away from it.

So, I haven't hit a Fluid Feel iron in a dog's age nor have I hit any of the recent Wilson offerings that have incorporated it. The last Wilson blade I hit was the FG59's about 12 years ago.

So, anyone notice any difference with the new Fluid Feels? I just find it interesting that they would bring it back, and that they would choose to incorporate it into a CB.

Oh their rep has been tarnished for sure. Box store brand, budget, to even cheap equipment. Walmart brand, Driver vs driver. Baller box. All examples of terrible decision by wilson in the golf market.

Oh lord.  I completely forgot about the baller box, haha.  They slammed the breaks on that debacle pretty quickly.  What were they asking per dozen again?  I want to say it was astronomical in price right away.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
