I hit the Wilson cb’s after buying the staff blades. They are both better than anything else right now. Compared to my old p7tw they are both noticeably better. Wilson still has it by a long shot in regards to irons.

Was able to get out yesterday and play with my new set of Staff Model CB’s.  They play very similar to the Staff Model Blades, but as expected the longer irons 4-6 are easier to hit in the Cb’s.  I’m using the stock shaft (Dynamic Gold) in stiff flex (same as my model blades) and it’s just a really nice pairing.  The conditions yesterday were really soft and my whole round was played in the rain, but I had one of my better ball striking days that I’ve had in a while with these clubs.  I can’t compare these to the V6 irons because I never gamed those, but I’ve tried a lot of irons over the past couple years (apex/apex pro, I210, gen 3 T, TC201, Mp20, T100, PTX Pro, Z785) and these have me the most excited to get out and use them over any of those.  I hope to have them in the bag for a long time.  I took some quick pictures of the cb next to the model blade in the 7 iron and in the pw (cb is on the right side) and it looks like the top line on the 7 iron is ever so slightly bigger on the cb, but pretty much the same on the pw.

Yea.  I’m up here in Seattle, someone had them for sale on the classifieds.  I didn’t ask how he/she had them before the release date.  I was just happy to get them.

@PNDUBGLFR hows the turf interaction? From pics and vids it seems like there's some "curvature" on the sole similar to the srixon v-soles. Distance ??

Anyone know if the pre-order will be on the Wilson site?  Or is pre-order only for those with access to approved vendors at clubs or other distributors?   

 

I'm very interested in these but there's still no info on the main Wilson site about the staff CB's.  Surprised at how little has been released about these.  Seen bits and pieces on this site and others from back in late Oct but hardly anything since.

Thanks.  Just noticed the Instagram post that I linked to last week that originally said pre-order starts Jan 8 was edited to say "coming soon."  The YouTube vides from Michael Newton and Shiels were nice a few months back as were the articles here and on MGS.  Been a few months of crickets though and looks like it will be another one.  Disappointing b/c I was really hoping to see one in person soon to compare with the ZX7 and P770 offerings (and even the Apex/Pro 21 range that will drop soon).  Wait continues.

I've ordered the Wilson Staff Model CB's 2 and 3 iron as well as a GW to pair up with my Wilson Staff Model blades. I haven't heard of an ETA yet for them, but since I live in New York near Buffalo, I'm in no hurry..

This is only a guess but if you go on TGW.com and look at the shaft selection for the Wilson blades under custom specs that should give you a idea.

Well...I picked up a set off the Bay.  Looking to replace my 962's that are ancient.  Only hit foam balls in net at home but hopefully can get to range this week to hit some actual shots outside.  Some sets that I considered in the past as alternates have been s55's, i210's, AP2's, T200s, and more recently P770's.   Must say the Staff CB's are giving me good vibes so far.  

 

Still have a few of those test heads so I took some pics just to give people a comparison of the actual faces and then I used some impact stickers to try and show differences between the head sizes.  It's nothing scientific and designed just to give people a rough estimate of the differences. 

 

They are more compact heel to toe than my 962's (and other irons I've compared) but it's not overly noticeable to me when I set the club down.  What I like is how top to bottom they are a little taller than some of the other irons and that actually gives me more confidence especially when I envision shots out of rough where I sometimes catch the ball center and higher up on the face.  The P770's I found to be someone short and a little more intimidating to my eye but maybe I associate iron height rather than length as being forgiving.  Others may be the opposite and focus on length.  To each their own.  Here are the comparison pics:

I got to hit the Wilson irons last week. They are beautiful. They feel amazing. I wish they would take a page out of titleists play book, and make a S model. I play strong lofts and these are considerably weaker. I know you can bend them; but they never sit as square.

I've been following the release of the Wilson Staff Model CB irons since Rick Shiels reviewed them.  2020 was my first full year back to playing golf in 15 years and I was looking for irons to grow into.  I recently had the opportunity to demo the CB, along with TaylorMade P-770 and P-790 irons.  I wasn't interested in the P-790 because I already own game improvement irons (newest version of Rocketbladez).  I wanted traditional lofts and more ability to shape shots. 

The P-770 felt good, but my distance was about 20 yards short of my normal.  To be fair, I haven't swung a club in several months.  The P-790s felt better than expected and averaged 20 yards longer than the P-770.  If I were looking for new GI irons, the P-790 would be in contention.  I demo'd the Model CB last and was immediately impressed.  The feel was even better than the P-770, distance exactly between the P-770 and P-790, and off-center shots didn't penalize as much as I expected.  It's really quite forgiving.  I was most impressed by two things: 1) the feel; and 2) very tight groupings.  Seriously, my groupings were so good it floored me. 

 

The store received one set of 4-PW irons that day and I bought them.  And I placed an order for the GW before I left.  I'm super excited to get out to the range and the courses.  I'll follow up with my impressions after I've had some time with the clubs.

In the pics on this page they look oddly tall, kind of weird looking.  Wish local stores had them so I could see in person.  Would love to try a Staff CB/Blades combo set

I never knew how difficult it is to take pictures of irons for comparison purposes. 😀  I hope these pics help.  W/S Model CB is the middle club in all pictures.  The similar looking club with the plastic wrap is the TaylorMade P-770.  The largest club is the TaylorMade RocketBladez.  All are 7-irons.
