Wilson Staff Model Blades - is it me?

That was true with the MP-14 and MP-33, and the MP-32 were mid or low-mid, but I wouldn't say that's true since those.  The MP-18 was actually above the centerline of the ball, and many of their blade models have been approaching .800".

This must be partly why I love the feel MP18 SC so much being a steeper swing and really compressing the ball. This is interesting info about C.O.G. I never really knew. I also love the W/S blades. Thought they felt great.

They have sweet spot closer to the heel I believe. Like a traditional iron.  Might be catching it toeside a hair ?     I’m a fader and until I got the lie right on the mizuno mp20 I felt the sa

Different forgings will feel different so it all depends on preference.   I prefer a firmer iron so I gravitate towards Titleist-style forgings and loved the Staff blade.

They feel powerful but when you’re hitting down on them and delivering the right amount of loft, they’re very satisfying to hit and in no way hard. I had them with X stiff C tapers and they were still

Like it just doesn't feel as solid as other forged clubs? Never heard people say that before.

Source? 8620 is not commonly used in forging's. Avoided actually.

I had this wrong. 8620 is common in OEM castings and some forging's. Evidently, it's the 10 series carbon that is not casted much, mainly forged. Carry on.

I have the old Fg62 in the storage and been thinking about switching back to them. My question is that has anybody tested them against the ”new” Wilson staff model blades. Is there a big enough difference in feel or forgiveness that I should be looking to getting the new ones? I could get the new ones fairly cheap but does it even make any sense when I already have the fg62 blades. What do you guys think?

The fg62's were an awesome set, I actually went back another generation to my fg59's and sold the Tour Blades. Much prefer the size and feel, they are also a very confidence inspiring set similar to the comfort level of an old set of slippers!

Hi All -

I have played the Apex MB 18s for a couple of years, and have grown to absolutely love them.  The Apex's are my favorite irons i've ever played.  Well, I just got Wilson Staff Model Blades 2-PW, because I hit them well and loved the look, but I cannot get used to the feel.  Is it me?  They feel much more like a cast club than the forged clubs I'm used to.  The Apex MBs are so much softer.  Any thoughts?  Is this known, or am I the only one?

I am now going to move into the Apex MB 2021s.

this is rudimentary, but have you considered that Wilsons come +1/4 over standard length?

I'm convinced that when they first came out someone on here stated that they were not forged in the traditional sense but were actually cast first and then finished off with a forging, a bit like the old TaylorMade Coin Forged.

This would explain any perceived harshness it would also explain their durability. I had mine for 6 months, playing at least three times a week. When I sold them last week they still looked like new with barely a mark on them.

As for feel I replaced Mizuno MP4 with these so I think it is safe to say that they was always going to be a slight difference. However I have replaced these with Srixon Z785 and the difference is quite significant.

Not withstanding any of that the Staff Model are a beautiful club, very high flight, surprising long and surprisingly forgiving.

On the McGolf you tube channel he had the Wilson rep on and he said the clubs are not, in my words, old school billet forged.  They are shaped then pounded to finish.  He also said the vast majority of OEM clubs are forged in the same manner.  I have not toured every manufacturing facility but in my head it could explain part of the difference in price from a Mizzy to a Miura.

Wilson actually measures from a different bottom-of-ground than other OEM's, producing the extra 1/4" in their specifications.  But when compared with other manufacturer's "standard" lengths they're the same -- that is, 5 iron @ 38" (not 38 1/4").
