A big "THANK YOU!" for that post!  The 735's are my favorite set.  I have tried two sets of the GI irons in the past.  Both were just like the original posters description.....lazy ball strikers.  I just could not seem to consistently put a good swing on them.  It would be like the larger head size would seem to keep me from the "concentration" needed to put an efficient swing on them.  This would really come into play on trying to hit a specific type of shot.  The thing that endears me the most to them is the ability to know if I hit the desired shot right at impact.  The GI irons always had a dead feel. I started beating balls when I was 7.  By my junior year in high school I had walked away from the game.  Right around 48 years old I started tinkering with it again, and within 3 years was starting to work on trying to look like I had a clue on what I was doing.  I am now 62, so my background is very likely why I have trouble with the GI irons. Maybe once my age catches up to me & my game deteriorates because of it, I might change my view.  Time will tell.

Just to add....hybrids did not work for me. Driver, 3 wood, 2 iron, 3-pw, then 50 & 58 wedges.

Im from michigan.  

My late father was a great golfer and passed when i was 5 (2001), he believed that he didnt need any of the new clubs (big bertha @ that time) to kick a** and would refer to his set as the "K-mart blue light special"

now that you got some context. I currently play on my junior college team, i played on the junior PGA in HS (2011-13) although i was just a little cherub trying to live the dream. for me I like to play consistent golf and dont chalk up my expectations on every other shot (use to be bad on myself back in HS) and try to keep a good head through the round have fun and enjoy the scenery.

also do you know where to edit in the signature???

It is called building your bag to give you the best chance at scoring. Who cares if the make up has the blade set on the short irons and not the whole bag. I can see how a player might want the small bit of feel towards the lower end. I had my bag set up the same way. The way you set up your bag cant be cookie cutter In my opinion and it is a shame if you feel like you are pitted to play blades all the way through.

You edit your signature in the profile section. It's kind of tough to find. Click your avatar in the top right, then account settings, then signature on the far left.

could be a shaft thats whippy at reg.-stiff flex and the xstiff brings that dispersion and feel close to a standard iron perhaps.  i would assume you may be a low launch person as well but i dont know all the variables

Exactly. I'm a low-launch, high spin player. I like a soft tip in my hybrid shafts, but if I combine that with stiff shaft, they become hook machines. The x-shafts at 85grams allow them to play much more like irons than they normally would.

 

Do you know many scratch or better players who play hybrids up to a 7-hybrid and their longest iron is an 8-iron?

The object of the game is to get the ball in the hole with the fewest strokes. Whatever equipment helps you do that go with it, whether it's a blade, a hybrid set, or whatever. Besides, there is no such thing as "lazy" or "stupid easy" to hit equipment. Golf is a hard game regardless of what you have in your bag.

Exactly. In fact, many players simply cannot hit lofted hybrids well. They don't "fit" their swing/release.

no not personally. although I do have a team mate who plays the t200 irons and he plays similar to me.  I have been seeing alot of posts around about other golfers who have been playing scratch/low golf with GI irons lately

it was a rant, lol  what triggered me was when this TXG video about the callaways and when "matty-boy" is thumbing his chest hitting a t100 7 iron 180 or so and then makes mention at some point about the cally blade 7 iron and not looking like a fool etc

For me that just did it and then I just thought about the threads here and so forth came the formation of the post lol 

But it was indeed for fun and i knew if made the title with some controversy it could either bring in peoples opinion and reaction or just get left alone. lmao I did succeed in both 

the thing with text unless you know me personally and how i speak, its kinda hard to translate intention of words
