Looking for swing analysis

Recommended Posts

I got the Arccos Caddie and while it's kind of cool, it doesn't show me the stuff wanted to know like swing path and club face at impact. So I am trying to find something under $200 that will do that.

Swingtip seems kind of cheap but also had ok reviews.

Skypro?

Garmin had the truswing that is discontinued.

Zepp?

What else? Opinions? First hand use? Thanks.

Accurate and reliable path and face data from club mounted devices is a difficult prospect.  I can't say I've tried them all but none of the ones I did try were useful for that kind of data.  At least not for me.   I think the way I set-up to the ball confused them when it came to figuring out where the face was pointed or where the target line might be.   So I basically gave up and got a Flightscope instead.  Obviously that's not a viable option for most due to the cost but the point being you might have to resign yourself that what you're looking for may not exist for the price you're willing to pay.

I guess as an engineer, face orientation doesn't seem like rocket science, but some of the reviews seem like what you experienced. Getting the thing lined up is half the battle.

Please believe if things keep progressing, I will be building a sim in my garage with a flight scope and screen.

The reality is it's my driver. I can even hit my 3 wood off the deck straight 90% of the time. But I leave my driver open and that b**** is left into the river on 9. Damn near every time.

If I could see where I am at impact, I could correct it. But right now I'm guessing.

The Arccos stuff is kind of cool. But to have a sensor on every club and all it does is tell me what club I am holding in my hand seems like a bit much. Seems I can do all the same stuff with a free app if I just tell it the club.

So club face, swing path and speed would be cool. Since I will use it at the range, I don't need distance info or flight path. Mostly just club and swing dynamics.

Ok, after further reading it seems the 3Bay Zone GSA might work. It's right at $200, might score one used.

Face impact location can actually play as much or more of a roll in the results for a driver and long off the shelf playing lengths can be a big contributor to problems.    As a first step, you might try going through this self fitting tutorial.  It wont fix any swing problems but it can help minimize the consequences of those swing problems.  All you need is some foot powder spray, some lead tape and a bucket of balls at the range.

When it comes to swing problems,  the best way to really deal with that is through video (and working with someone who knows what to look for in them).    The key to fixing swing issues is not really knowing what's happening at impact but rather what happened much earlier in the swing to cause the problems.   Knowing that the face is open or the path is doing something does not tell you why it's happening.

Don't get me wrong, I have a flightscope and it can be very helpful to help monitor the effectiveness of swing changes - but I never use it to diagnose the problems or to determine what in the swing needs to change.

Thanks for the info. For me, I understand the mechanics of the golf swing, so I am looking for something that will show me mine so I can fix what's wrong.

I am trying to DIY my swing and not pay someone else to care. That's why I am looking to use technology to map my clubface, swing arch, swing path, that sort of thing. The 18birdies app did a video analysis of my swing and gave it a 98. The only comment was backswing tempo. So overall my swing doesn't suck.

The 3Bays seems to do a good job of mapping the swing arch and clubface orientation through the swing. If I can snag one off eBay for under $100, I could be in business.

The issue with this is I would need to make a space in the garage and move my PC out there. And it's $650, seems a little out of my budget, but there is one on eBay for $100.

Don't get me wrong, I want to make a sim setup in the garage, but I will need a bigger garage or sell my Corvette. 🤣

I just checked my garage and the ceiling isn't high enough. I don't have anywhere in the house I can swing a club, so the R motion won't work for me. It would be cool, maybe once I have a shop, I will have a legit sim.

The 3bays zone seems like the best option at this point.

I have 9-ft garage ceiling and do just fine with irons. Driver is too long.  The R-Motion numbers IMO are not accurate to RL, but if I can be consistent within the R-Motion world, I'll be consistent on a real course.  I hope.

I have above garagr door storage, so I only have 7'.

I got the 3bays Zone. I had it on my driver a few times and it messes with my head thinking about it. My first drive was all heel and went about 80'. 🤣

I will try it in the back yard if it ever stops raining. The app looks way different than what I see on youtube.

Also not sure it realizes I am lefty.

So I have used it some on the course, and today at the range. I can say while I would like better numbers, it is giving me what I was looking for and I know it has helped me make adjustments.

I have never heard of that. I would need to rig some stuff, but that could be nice.

18birdies has a video swing analysis that said I was a 98. Didn't do anything for my slice. 🤣
