anyone know what’s the deal with approved stamp on this futura long that was cut down .. bought in pga store for 29.00

Thought this was about an over exuberant fan of cameron champ, a night of boozing, and a backside waistline tattoo.

When first produced, the Futura Long version was deemed illegal by the USGA & R&A under certain circumstances. So SC/Titleist took them back and replaced them with legal versions. Eventually the "APPROVED" was added to the production engraving.

The long version of the original Futura was deemed non-confirming because the shape of the sole would allow it to sit in a way that caused the shaft to be at a lie angle that was over the limit (needs to be at least 10 degrees off vertical to be conforming, e.g., 80 degrees).

 

Titleist fixed the issue with the long version of the Futura and those with corrected soles had an "APPROVED" stamp on the face.
