Nienaber can really send it can't he?  I believe they are at elevation, but he hit it 439 yards on a par 5.  Good grief.

On another note, I had been meh on Allyson Whitaker as an analyst on the broadcasts.  She has moved over to the host position, and I think she is quite good in that role.  Has golf knowledge, so she can add something there, but does a real good job of directing traffic and herding the cats.  While she isn't Dougie Donnelly, I could see her and Dominic Holyer sharing the duties for a while.

Hits it miles for a big skinny kid who doesn't look like he is hitting it that hard. Needs to tidy up a bit but only 20 so plenty of time.

I really enjoy Allyson commentating as well. Has fun when called for but comes across as very knowledgeable and clearly researching the players and current events before going on air.

Being in my 50's I have always initially found it hard to take to women commentating on sports that have been mainly male dominated coverage wise.

I was surprised when Dougie called it a day on Sky. Listened to him for years doing the Scottish football and latterly the golf. True pro and not easy to replace.

Correct. Approximately 5,800 feet. Doesn't matter as that driver was just nuked.

I reckon Nienaber and Champ are way ahead of the field in terms of easy distance.

Mpumalanga next. One of the more spectacular tournaments, not only because of the constant zoomings on elephants, Rhinos... Normally good tournament, good course layout, generally a really good atmosphere in the broadcasts. A little like the Omega event in the Alps.

Better money - better field. Some of the top notch South Africans joins in. This year without bermudas I suppose...

I've posted this story many times, but bears repeating.

At Leopard Creek a few years ago, camera pans to a rhino, who immediately begins urinating.  Not sure if you've ever seen a rhino do that, but it is a high volume operation.  SO at first the commentators(I know DD was there, want to say Johnstone, and can't recall the others), make a comment about it being unexpected.  Camera stays on, rhino continues, after about 20 seconds someone pipes up that he had quite a few drinks the night before.  After what seems another 20 seconds, the rhino shows no signs of stopping, and someone says "Well there are no prostate problems there."  Everyone just absolutely lost it at that point.  It was hilarious.

Have a Scandinavian favourite as Leopard Creed broadcasts go. Legendary Commentator Göran Zackrisson -  who was like the only golf commentator here for decades, now well into his eighties, made his highly emotional finale when Henrik won our only male Major at Troon - was sent down there maybe 15 years ago. And I am positive he had a quiet couple of drinks before the broadcast. Told stories of how he played the day before, made wonderful remarks about Cobras in the rough, tried to imitate Indian english when pronoucing the names of Indian players, totally ridiculous. Some other scandinavias here might remember...  I'm positive it´s the jungle feeling you get into that makes the guys who goes down there make the commentating of their lives. Normally, a tournament worth seeing.

I want to know why they didn't show a shot of the cobra that was on the cartpath.  They spent a decent amount of time talking about it, and they have shown a bunch of animals.  Show us some snakes!!  Guys up in towers can do it.

Prolly don’t want it showing up all over the internet and scaring potential tourists  to the club.

Anyone who travels to SA and doesn't realize there are dangerous animals there....  well, Darwin comes to mind.

Check this out. These two black mambas were seen fighting on the same course that this tournament was played on!

“Ms Treherne and her group wisely made the decision to stay in their golf buggies and gave the mambas – who can kill a human in just 20 minutes with a bite – a very wide berth to the fifth hole.”

Holy crap.  I didn't realize they were in SA.  I thought they were more mid-continent.  I would never not have a club in my hand if I played there.

I'm guessing a caddy is a good investment.

Looking at the quality and extraordinary length of the young South African players coming through, I can see some superstars of the future.

OK, my best buddy took me to the Red Cross snake farm in Bangkok years ago. That kind of cured the worst, even had a Boa snake around my neck. But generally, seeing a snake on TV is nothing I love. Think that phobia probably goes back to our days in the trees. Those guys killed us, and that body shape makes many of us react with great fear. Pretty happy that there are more elephants than snakes in the Leopard Creek broadcasts.

What's wrong with Duke?

I believe you are European?  If so you likely don't get the comment. The biggest issue is the basketball team gets portrayed as "doing things the right way", the model for all schools to follow, the coach can do no wrong, etc., when in fact they have just as many shady, unanswered questions regarding players' recruitments, they go after the one and done players just as much as the schools that get criticized for doing it, and the coach, who is portrayed as a saint, is actually just like every other coach.  But the media overlooks all of this because it makes a story for them.

I was half joking when I said that.  But there is a certain roll of the eyes whenever Duke gets mentioned.

Either there was some very bad planning, or very slow play.  4.5 hour broadcast window for Dubai tournament, final group teed off a little bit after coming on air, broadcast still went nearly 45 minutes over.  I don't know if there is a lot of in between holes walks at this course, but usually not an issue for ET events.

Watching the closing holes of the Dubai tournament,  Good stuff.  Really like Andrew Coltart's commentary - insightful and great scottish voice!   One question - what was Matt Wallace thinking with those trousers?
