gcquad questions & gcquad vs trackman

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I have tried a trackman before so I kind of understand how it works, was wondering if anyone can provide me insight as to how it compares to gcquad?

And if one over the other would be preferable for indoor practice?

Based on my prowling of trying to understand, gcquad used to have some issues in the past, but it looks like a lot more pros use it for their range practice in recent months?

Also, if I need to get attack angle and swing path each time when I practice indoors, does that mean each time I need to put on club markers? How difficult/time consuming/marker consuming is it to do that? (Because each time my clubs get wiped down after a round I assume these markers need to be replaced)

So my current conclusion is: If markers aren't annoying to use for each of my own personal clubs, gcquad would be preferable indoors?

Otherwise trackman would be more useful since I want to see my attack angle and swing path on a consistent basis without spending 1 minute per club per session on club markers?

Thank you kindly for any gcquad vs trackman insights!

For indoor use the GCQuad is much better than Trackman.

The stickers are actually pretty durable. You can play with them and they will generally speaking stay on. I'm not sure about how long they'll actually last on irons but for driver they should never really come off.

Just remember to take them off for any tournament play.

if I could do it all again I’d start with $3000 (edit:the instructor I went to the other day could do it in $100) on lessons with someone who uses video and launch monitor at same time, and compares me to swings i aspire to emulate.

invaluable.

once done with that, I would know all about launch monitors and which one right for me. I woulda picked the same one, but wasted way less time chasing numbers achieved with inconsistent movement, and less time researching random opinions on what $20000 machine worked best for my life

That article is from 2017, I thought they changed that rule as long as the sticker doesn’t effect how the club interacts with the ball.

Probably good to double check  but while they did relax some of the rules when it comes to external attachments, I'm pretty sure the face is still off limits.

Yep.  Looks like face still off limits:

Attachments to the clubhead (other than the face), such as protective coverings, decorative items or alignment aids, provided the item is semi-permanent. However, such items must not excessively protrude from the clubhead and must conform to the shape of the clubhead. Also, for driving clubs, such attachments must not serve to cause any confusion with the correct identification of a club on the Conforming Driver List. Such attachments should, therefore, be subtle, plain in appearance and discreetly positioned. Permanent additions to a clubhead would be considered part of the head and, therefore, the head, in its modified state, would have to conform to Part 2, Section 4 of the Equipment Rules (i.e. for dimensions and “plain in shape”).
