Adams Golf New Tight Lies

Recommended Posts

Clubs look pretty cheap.  Fairway wood pic looks like the head is aimed to left field.  Didn’t see any info on shafts other than they only go up to stiff flex.
I like the old Adams hybrid line.  I have an Adams Ti 2 hybrid that is as good as any hybrid you could buy.  It was around $400 new and worth it.  Guess they are just after a different market with the new line.

I think this is TM trying to capitalize on the new player surge due to COVID; and the proven model of DTC golf sales.  They can offer a product that is easier on the wallet to a casual or new golfer, that probably performs pretty decent, with a brand they may have heard of, and not cut into their flagship TM products.  They are expanding their market instead of dividing it.

That makes plenty of sense. Could of done without the cringe infomercial . I thought it was a parody geico commercial at first.

I agree.  I think they were trying to tap into the roots of the Adams brand, as kind of an infomercial club.  Adams was a unicorn in that it started as a "gimmick" club and evolved over the years into a world class pro line OEM.  At it's roots it was started by a club that was easy to hit.  I think too many of us remember them as the industry leader in hybrids, as well as manufacturing cult classic forged irons and drivers; but we all kind of forget that most of us probably initially thought the original Tight Lies was just another "as seen on TV" club.

Finally hit mine . Great club if you have a hard time getting height on a 3 wood. Mishit on toe but still carried 210 . Not bad for this old man.

Exactly what I thought: it’s an infomercial. Not sure why they are even bothering with keeping up the brand name and producing anything under the name. They have been phasing them out for years and turning them into  the packaged set brand. The way I see it though is Taylormade is the new adams. Even titleist is using the channel/ slot cavity design. And with the recent released, there is titanium faces in the fairways. Adams is still alive in spirit.

Sad part is these infomercial clubs end up making the top 10 in club sales on Amazon each year. I could see this doing the same.

I followed the XE1 wedge on eBay for a while and it sold for more than the price on the infomercial site.

same thing right now with the Hummingbird 70* wedge.  can’t find one on eBay for less than the retail site price.

Why is this sad? If any of these clubs help people enjoy their golf more isn’t that a good thing?

Was more of an expression.
I play a callaway Sure out 64* wedge. A 9w. Sometimes an 11w. Whatever makes the game easier. My comment was more about the infomercial clubs. Usually cheaply made  yet because they pump $$$$$ into ads on the golf channel they sell for more than street price on the used circuit.
You can get a quality made product from callaway or Cleveland at a cheaper price.

You can buy as many as you want from the website. Why would anyone pay more on the used circuit?

I bought the 16 degree and the 19 degree.  Currently have a Callaway X Hot 3/15 degree and I cannot really hit it off the fairway with any consistency.  Good off the tee, however.  Have a 18 degree RocketBalz also.

The new Adams 16 is much easier to hit from the fairway.  It's the same length of club.  But it is much shorter than my X Hot and I am SO reluctant to give up yardage even when it makes great common sense to do so.  Go figure.  The new Adams 16 is about 15 yards shorter maybe 20, so I cut it down 1.5 inches and am using it in place of my 18 degree Rocketbalz.  Now goes just about the same length and is much easier to hit.  Have no such solution with the Adams 18.  It is 1" longer than the Rocketbalz and I personally prefer shorter clubs, they're easier for me to consistently hit.  I will return this one.  Thought about cutting it down 1.5 inches too but then its distance would be about the same as my 5 iron, my lowest iron, and it'd be a wash for consistency.

Cutting down a club one inch makes a huge difference - totally different club. But, it was easier to it. I did this with a heavenwood and G400 3 wood. The sr shafts were too whippy.

Ha!  You're so right Tanner, I just didn't think that through when I cut it down.  Fortunately the Adams "stiff" is not at the stiffest end of the spectrum and it gets airborne so quickly that its 1.5" reduction didn't make a big difference for my swing.  It does depend on your swing and tempo I believe--the change in stiffness--and probably a whole lot of other factors that the techies on these discussion boards are better able to answer.  With a smooth rhythmic temp I think it makes a bit less of a difference.

Bottom line for me I was Very Disappointed in the distance from the new 16 degree.  I think it's because--for me---it just spins too much and loses any roll as well as goes too high.  Adams says it's between a low and high spinning face but again I think individual swing characteristics have a big impact.

I read that this morning, apparently I was right.  I still think it’s a good move, for them to dive into the DTC market for wave of new golfers with a recognizable name.  I hope it works well for them.
