Any juniors playing Wilson V4 or V6 irons?

So some time in the spring, my 9YO boy is going to need a new set of irons.  Currently, playing USKG TS3-54's.

I saw that Wilson released some nice looking Wilson Staff CB's which are basically the next version of the V4/V6 line (guess they didn't want to call them V8's).  Lofts are traditional.  Essentially, my kid will be on the edge next year of going with either TS3-57's (perhaps junior steel shaft) or something in the OEM space with either graphite (ex: UST Recoil) or steel (KBS Junior 560/580) shafts.

Any juniors play the V4/V6's?  Did you like them? Other thoughts?

These are some good looking irons!

Yeah, I really like the looks of the new Wilson Staff CB's and also like the Wilson FG Tour V6's.   If not those, I might put my kid in the Hogan PTx Pro's or the Hogan PTx Pro/Icon combo set.

Tough call as the Wilson cavity back seems to closely resemble the USKG TS3 cavity and may be an easier transition to OEM for him.

All great options.

My daughter is going to have to wait a few years to get irons that nice.  I have her in some used/reshafted 712 cb irons that she has a little room to grow into, and the transition from her old Flynn Velocity irons was pretty seamless.

My kid had two sets of the V6 irons.  He absolutely loved them.  With that said, it was a HUGE mistake to purchase them.  In Fact, it is probably a mistake for most kids to play a players iron until they are old enough.

The biggest problem with this irons are there is little to no technology in them.  I will give you a comparison.

My kid is currently swing Callaway Big Bertha Granpa irons.  He hats the look and he hates the feel, but currently he will stay in this set until he tells me he wants another set.  I bought these back last December.  We knew that this set would be less than a year before he moved back to a players set.  Right now though, a players set of irons still can't replace the numbers, but for gapping purposes are going to have to move back to a players iron.

When my son tested he was at 135 yard with the Wilson 34 degree 7i.  The Big Bertha 7i is a 30 degree loft that he was hitting 159 on average.  Though it is a 30 degree loft the technology in this head makes the ball go higher than the Wilson traditional loft while still going longer with a better decent angle into the green.  He lost a little bit of spin, but not enough to worry about and made up for with better accuracy paired with the correct shaft.  A 14 yard difference with the other numbers that came back were too much to ignore.

I understand the pride thing, however, pride can lead to stupidity.

We are going to have to get new irons shortly and will try the Wilson Staff's for sure.  He is having gapping issues with Irons to Wedges.  His AW is his 135 yard club.  He hits his 54 degee wedge 110 and his 58 degree wedge 100.  His 7i now sits at 175 yds.

Thanks for the detail @heavy_hitter on the V6's.  When he was playing the V6's, what was his yardage on the 6-iron (stock says 31* on that club)?  From your post, I'll guess the height of the ball flight was not as high as the 30* BB 7-iron.  Curious....

After another weekend of 1-step forward and 3-steps back, we'll probably just stick with TS3-57's on the next set.

It has been so long ago I really don' recall.

The thing is with Game Improvement irons is they really do improve the game.  People will claim that the irons are hot because of the degree of loft.  With the technology if the loft was 34 degrees it would go too high.

I'd say stick with USKG as long as you can. I thought we go adult but one its a lot more expensive two most kids don't have the speed to really take advantage of adults clubs. Yes you will hit it further but on the wrong flight wrong spin and ball will never stop. For kids sub 12 you can't beat a set of USKG irons.

Yeah, will probably just go with the junior steel shafts on the set.  Might look at getting OEM wedges.

Is there a "lighter weight wedges" discussion posted anywhere?

I bought my daughter the Cleveland ladies wedges and had them cut down to fit her. She has always loved their wedges. They come with a very lightweight shaft and many juniors use them. The version that she has is the RTX- 3 CB and they sale for $50 on rock bottom golf. They have two pink dots on the back and several of the posters who have boys, just painted them a different color.

My son has the same wedges, we painted the dots orange to match his irons. He loves those wedges and they are very solid performers, plus for $50 you can't beat it!
