Stability Tour putter shaft feel

Recommended Posts

I have been putting with a 35” Bettinardi BB1 with a super stroke putter grip. After trying a friends stability tour shaft and loving it, I bought one and had it installed. Now, first day out, I’ve noticed a drastic change in the feeling of the head weight. It feels much lighter and as I take the putter head away, it feels like it’s wandering. Additionally, the sound at impact is different. It now delivers a *ping* sound. Any idea what’s going on? Wondering if the grip isn’t right or maybe the tour’s balance point is different. Any thoughts would be great.

I’ll add quickly that I have noticed an improvement in my line and the distance control is good, albeit short - something I’m sure time will help with. The sound and wiggle of the putter head is concerning to me though.

The three byrons I’ve put the tours in I’ve liked the feel change.  I put a standard stability shaft in my studio Cameron and I hate it, going back to the stock shaft this winter in it.

I put a stability tour in my SC Newport. Hated it. Ended up selling the putter and built another newport with the KBS CT Tour. Much happier. Amazing on long putts

that’s funny - I did the same thing, waiting for a new Betti to come tomorrow. Maybe I’ll settle into the stability shaft but as of right now, doesn’t feel like it’s for me. It’s too bad because from

I’m a huge fan of the stability’s in plumbers necks.  I feel they make a measurable improvement with that neck design, the flow neck in my studio design did the opposite.  Putter face feels muted and dead.  I think there’s something to how tight the fit is and how much shaft insertion you get into the hosel in relation to the feel/sound produced by stability.

My deep water Byron had a “ping” spot on the face after I installed a stability tour the first time. I pulled the shaft and spent some time on the belt sander with a set of calipers to make sure I was getting full engagement in the hosel and low and behold no more ping off the face.

I did not have the tour but the regular and I put it into my Scotty Squareback. Thought the transition to stability would be seamless but I put horribly with it. I mean putting off the green from twenty feet bad. I bought another Squareback and made five birdies next round so the stability is now w a friend. Balance point and weight  is much different than steel due to the graphite shaft and sound/feel is muted  vs steel. Some will like it but wasn’t for me.

that’s funny - I did the same thing, waiting for a new Betti to come tomorrow. Maybe I’ll settle into the stability shaft but as of right now, doesn’t feel like it’s for me. It’s too bad because from the second I picked up my bb1 (pre stability tour shaft) I loved it and had tons of confidence in it/my putting.

Exact same situation. Loved the Scotty from day 1 decided to experiment after two years. Experiment failed, bought another one. I think if you’re a good putter and like your putter, a stability shaft isn’t going to help at all. I even did some testing on the putting green and they pretty much ended up identical in terms of makes misses proximity etc..However on the course, stability just didn’t work for me even after practicing with it.
My friend who has the Stability one now likes it though so  🤷🏻‍♂️

I was fit on a quintic and the stability shaft helped me quite a bit.   Different strokes for different folks.... literally.   I’ll never own a plumbers neck style head without one.   I just pulled the shaft and sold it out of my flow neck Cameron studio head.    Every person who’s rolled putts with one of mine has wanted one.   The shafts won’t make a poor putter a good putter but I believe they do make a good putter better.
