MEVO VS PRGR

Recommended Posts

Here's my take: I've had MEVO for a couple years. I like it.  Paid $500 for it. It seems very accurate on swing speed, launch and ball speed. I use it outdoors only. Spin on irons is not at all accurate, perhaps using the metallic stickers would improve this IDK, I don't use it for iron spin. My favorite feature is hearing the ball speed called out on the audio after I smash a drive, of course you can change it to whatever you like, swing speed, launch, smash, spin, etc. Sometimes it's a bit slow to connect to blue tooth on my phone, the phone must be very close to the unit, which is a problem if you want to use video feature, because you must back up the phone on the tripod further away from the unit and sometimes connection is lost. I've never had good luck with using the video feature as much. All your data is saved on the MEVO, so I've got data on my swing from early 2018, which shows me I'm losing swing speed, alas.

PRGR: SIMPLE as all get out. Put it behind your ball about 4 feet and swing away. No phone to worry about. Fast. I get nearly identical readings between the MEVO and the PRGR when talking about swing speed, ball speed and smash factor, It costs less than 1/2 the mevo. I paid $195. Can't save any data, once it's gone its gone.  I only bought this because the MEVO doesn't register swing speed unless you hit a ball and I got some Superspeed sticks and want to start a protocol this winter.

If I'd had the PRGR first, for what I use it for, I likely would not have gotten the MEVO. Bottom line to me is that they are both relatively equal in terms of accuracy with each other.

This is good to know.  I have a PRGR for the SuperSpeed and wedge work, my brother is asking for a MEVO for Christmas to dial in his distances.  I know the PRGR one seems very picky about placement to get readings and sometimes seems to not pick up partial wedges etc.  how is the MEVO for that kind of work?

When you used the MEVO outdoors - was it off of turf or off a mat?   Many mats can result in unexpectedly low spin numbers so it's possible that the problem might not be the MEVO.

But I agree, if you're only interested in swing and ball speed,  MEVO is a bit of overkill.   Lots of lower cost units can get accurate club and ball speeds.

Oh the MEVO is really good at picking up 90% of shots or better. I'll set it up and make a swing and have it call out the carry distance for each shot. I do that also for pitching, if I'm trying to land it exactly 15 yards or 20 yards etc.

Outside off grass only. I'm going to try the stickers outside and see if it makes a difference. Come to think of it, I may be just setting it up wrong. The MEVO always defaults to DRIVER in the menu before you start, I'm wondering if you have to pick the iron first in the menu before you hit. I'll do that and report back.

The club setting might help with detection but that's not going to be an issue outdoors - only if you were in a situation with very limited flight.  So the sticker would be the more likely fix.

Seems a bit expensive to me considering it can't measure spin (and doesn't support android).  But to each his own.

agree on the cost but it's been shown to be very accurate which is nice.
