Cut blue golf balls may have made a convert out of me

So I've been one of those people that thinks a premium ball won't make that much of a difference. I figured with my skills it doesn't matter that much either way. I may be a convert now.

I was talking with my boss about golf balls and he said he is really liking the Cut blue balls. They sell at $20 a dozen, 4 piece urethane cover ball. I had read some reviews online about them and they said the cover wasn't too durable. I hesitated to buy them because of that, but with golf getting an unexpected second wind due to some unseasonably warm November weather I decided to take the plunge.

I haven't played at my home course with them but I've played 23 holes with them and my average drive has been 244 yards, I have been averaging 217 all year. I've hit one 3 wood with them and that went like 230. I've hit several drives to 270+, a length I've only achieved on a 40 foot elevated hill, and my dispersion is much better, obviously something is working with my technique.

I haven't been doing any distance training yet, I did reshaft my driver and I'm kind of getting used to it, but the distance is across most of my clubs, just huge gains with the driver. I haven't even hit my 7 iron yet with these balls.

The cover concerns are fairly legitimate, I have one ball that's pretty scuffed up, biggest scuff from a cart path, but I've thinned some wedges and no cuts.

I'm just astonished by the distance increases, so far the Cut Blue is a great ball for me.

I did find an old Chromesoft, and for shuffled I cut it in half. Man they weren't kidding about how bad it is.

I haven't really been playing a single golf ball, I have used top flite hammer control, Noodle easy straight, Srixon marathon flightspeed, pinnacle soft, I've played pro v1's for a few wholes, a lot of balls. I've been trying to find a gamer ball but have generally felt like it wouldn't make that much of a difference. I generally would play a softer ball because I liked how they responded off of the putter. I felt that with pro v1's in particular I had to putt harder than I would prefer to to get the same distance.

27 yard driver gain is quite a measurement. What ball did you previously play before trying the Cut Blue?

I tried the Cut Blue a couple of years ago but couldn’t handle how bad the cover was.  I thought I read that they had taken care of that and were producing balls with better covers, but sounds like it’s not the case. Too bad because besides that issue, it’s a great golf ball

I saw something in one of their add about improvement of the cover so that also helped push me over the edge on it. I've seen some wear and tear. I haven't played a whole lot of premium balls so I don't really have a reference point.

I've played Cut a few times. The Blue did seem to have a slightly dodgy cover - it just looked warn after about 3 holes. And that was 3 holes where I didn't hit any trees/paths/bunkers. I thought it felt great though. I settled on Grey though as the feel was just more my cup of tea. Tried the Matt Pink balls too, and they are great if that's your sort of thing 👍

I just purchased the cut dual core to try out. The cut blue is a good ball that spins like crazy.

The DC interests me a lot, but the cheap bastxxx in me doesn't like the 29.99 price tag. Now if I continue to improve and start putting the cut blue into a shag bag because of wear and tear instead of the woods or the water, I might jump up to the DC.

I also went out and bought some Diablo tour balls today, I had a coupon so it was 3 for $40. They have good reviews and I figure they'd be okay to start the season while I knock the rust off.

Let me know how the DC performs for you.

They had them on sale for 3 for the price of 2 so I bought some. A little over 20 a dozen I can deal with. I also am a cheap a** when it comes to that hahahaha

The Blue has an insane amount of spin, I didn't realize this when trying them and was wondering why the ball was falling out of the sky for me.

Definitely not a ball for me, but people who need a ball to spin more it's a life saver.

Huh, I'm still relatively new to the deep end of golf data and still kind of learning about my swing. I thought with my "power" fade issues that a really spinny ball wouldn't work for me. Maybe I need that extra spin. Usual disclaimer of everyone has a different swing applies of course.

Everyone is different from how you deliver the club head at impact, club head speed, the irons you're using, etc.

For me I've always been a higher spin player naturally so I've needed a ball with a bit lower spin so I'm often in a brand's X model. But I'm always trying different brands so some it's a surprise both bad and good.

I noticed my ball dropping out of the sky in my drives when I changed my swing. From then on I started playing a ball that spun more to keep it in the air.

Too much spin and too little spin with both do that. Gotta find the right ball to get in that sweet spot.
