NS PRO 950 Vs. Tour Concepts

I have a set of each of these....the 950's in Tourstage 202's and the TC's in a set of Gauge Design Cavities. My questions are as follows:

1. Opinions as to the better of the two shafts

2. Will they switch? Hosel size, etc.

3. Looking at the 202's primarily, what would change appreciably w/change to the TC's

4. Any other comments?

By the way, both sets are stiff flex. Thanks for any input.

I like TC's... if you have issues with getting the ball airbourne then maybe the NS's would work...but otherwise the NP's are tip soft and launch the ball pretty high... The TC's will only help launch the ball in the long irons were it might be needed.

I went from the TC X1's to the new NS Pro 1150 Tours in x flex. The feel isn't even close. The NS's blow everything else away IMHFO. The ball flight is not as high as the NS 950 or 1050's but the feel and dispersion are unbelieveable.

It should be obvious to me which gets my vote. The best part is...I'v never had any prior experience with the Nippons. You might call me a "Nippy Virgin." :)

Tommy, I've hit 950 extensively, and am playing TC now.

1. Which is better is really about personal preference. IMO, 950 is light weight shaft and hits really high, lousy feel! TC is not light weight by category. The highlight is the progressive kick point and the unique (yet TTish) smooth feel.

2. I'm 99% sure that they will switch but dont quote me on this.

3. TCs in 202? That should rock. Should feel very solid. Long irons will still be as easy to hit as NS. Mid and short will be very solid and smooth. 202 are great heads and 950 just not capable of unleashing the head's potential (or rather I'm just not capable....).

4. I tried lots of NS shafts and I can say that I dislike them. Now, 1150 maybe a totally different story as Nippy Virgin states......

JMHO.... cheers,

the 1150 Tour is not as lightweight (118 gram vs 125 gram in the TC).....it's also not as much the highballer as the lightere NS's. It's a club longer with a better feel.

I'll agree...it's persoanl preference

I have played the 950 extensively in all my irons sets for the past 2 years, 300 Box Toes, +2mm, MP33 etc and felt good when I was trying to groove my swing, the light weight of the shaft allows you to concentrate on mechanics and yet swing well - now that I have more or less obtained a consistent swing etc, I find the 950 too light, they balloon like crazy. BUT they are smooth and I'm sure in the heavire guise, ie. 1050 or 1150 range they will be excellent shafts.

The TC I have tried on a set of MP60 recently, and to me they felt dead and heavy!!! I got nowhere with them and they just did not suit me swing etc. Sold them in a hurry.

I now play PX shafts.....

How soft do the 950s play to flex as I've heard anywhere from 1/2 to a full flex? Would a stiff hard-stepped once play to a true stiff (DG S300) or more of a firm?

So as to not go too off-topic, I spoke with a PING engineer and he said that the Tour Concepts (in i5's) tended to have a "knuckle" effect on ballflight and reduced accuracy. Although the TC's are offered through their Wrx program, they try to steer customers away from it. Not sure why they offer it if the TC's don't perform well as Ping does test every shaft in their clubs to make sure they play well.

Thanks.
