Built up standard CP2 grip?

I'm curious if anyone has bought standard Golf Pride CP2 grips and stretched them out to midsize with tape. What did that feel like for you? I put the midsize CP2 on a few clubs and the diameter is right but it feels a bit spongy. Theoretically the build up tape would firm a standard grip up a bit, right?

For a long while I had 4 wraps under standard CP2s and they worked out well.
 

They were firmer from the extra tape yes.

I use 2 wraps of the thicker neon green 3m tape. It's not quite midsized and is firmer. Best of both worlds for me. I like the grip of the CP2 and extra wraps minimizes any twisty/torque issues with that squishy of a grip. 

 

The green tape is the rough surface texture tape. It's awesome for blown on grips. No slippage.

jwhowles, using tape I think you will get the result that you are looking for re feel.

 

On my woods and irons (not specialty wedges) I play standard CP2 wrap grips with 6 wraps of tape starting 2in from butt and running 6.25 in in length from that point (I don't want to build up the grip under the pinky and ring fingers of my top hand but want more diameter for my remaining fingers - I do use some graduation of tape build to prevent any ridges and also ensure decent grip adhesion to the tape/shaft). This gives me close to a mid-size grip with reduced taper under my hands, noting the CP2 is already reduced bottom hand taper anyway. 

 

As you can see, very particular to my size needs but the second reason I do this is to stretch the grip. I really like the feel of the CP2s but they are a little spongy and the feel when swinging my longer clubs (my driver SS is 105mph) is therefore a touch unstable for me. The tape application creates a significantly firmer feel which I prefer, yet the CP2 surface feel remains authentic.

 

This set-up gets me the diameter and feel I want plus with the tape I use, my tape addition only adds 3 grams weight to the butt so c.1/2 swing weight reduction vs a normal mid-size CP2 which weighs 13.5 grams more and does not give me the swing weight and feel that I want (CP2 standard grips weight 50 grams, CP2 mid-size weigh 63.5 grams).

 

You can probably tell that I have done lots of experimentation to settle on this combo, I've even used 9 wraps. Also I have had no issues with installation with these built-up grips, easy enough to install over the tape.
