Bridgestone Tour B X or RX? Coming from TP5. What to expect?

SvenS3

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I played the TP5 all the Season. Ball was good. Nothing negative to say.

I´m thinking of trying some new balls to compare them.

I´ve read good things about the Bridgestone X and RX Balls. Very often they were described as "straight". My Driver Swingspeed is around the 104-107mph Mark.

The online Fitting recommends me the Tour B X.

What differences will I see or feel between the X or RX vs the TP5?

Thanks

I play the 2018 XS, it's awesome.  The new 2020 RXS is similar, I use in cooler temps.  RX I never liked.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I'm only interested in the 2020 Version of the Bridgestone Balls.

But thank you

Based on a couple rounds playing each, I find the feel of the Tour BX more off the driver as it's a little firmer and I feel like it gives better wind performance.

However that firmness (in my feel, anyway) extends through the irons/wedges as well, compared to the TPX which I feel a bit livelier/spinnier. (Of course, I never get a ton of spin regardless of ball). Distances seem same. Neither ball seems to otherworldly outperform the other.

I could not discern a difference with putter, TPX is maaaybe a tinge softer.

I used to play the TP5X - once i've used up my Maxfli Tour X I'll be switching to the Bridgestone B X.

The B X is the firmer version, so may be a bit firmer than the non-X TP, but because of the new cover doesn't feel overly firm with irons or putter.

I used to use many versions of the Tourstage balls before as I'm in Asia - but they gradually felt a little worse with each version...

This new Bridgestone ball is a very welcome return to a great feeling ball - maybe that's the biggest difference as all top balls (Titleist, Srixon, Taylormade) now perform very well - but to me the B X feels lovely. Nice solid thump sound with a driver, good with irons and a lot of spin and seemingly softer with short chips...

Another benefit is their range to fit your preferences - B X or B Xs and also the R X R XS.

Only drawback is I cannot get it in yellow for my older eyes 😀

Is it correct that the B RX ist softer felling than the B X ?

I DON'T like the TP5 X with the firmer feel vs the normal TP5. Putting and chipping feels hard of the face.

How do the B X and the B RX compare?

Coming from a TP5, the more comparable ball would be the Tour B XS, not either 2 you mentioned... but to answer your question you would be right on the border swing speed wise to use either the B X or B RX

B X is a very straight ball flight and seems to stay more online with the driver than B XS ( I play BXS 90% of the time, other times I try B X). B X will be firmer than the TP5, but to me I wouldn't say it feels too firm around the greens. Actually spins quite well for being a firmer ball

If you like a softer feel with the putter, then you would prefer the B RX

Tour B RX will feel softer than any of the balls you've mentioned.... which could be either a good or bad thing depending on your swing. I dont think you would over compress it causing loss of distance. The RX will be more of a distance type ball and shouldn't check up too much on short game wedge play. B X should have the advantage in wedge spin over the B RX, but again it will depend on the strike you put on it

Thanks for you reply.

Snell MTB is out. I live in Europe.

If I do the Ballfitting on the Website it puts me on the B X or B RX depending what I put in, because of swingspeed.

Straight Ball sounds good to me. I like to work the Ball (either draw and fade), but often it is too much on the course.

Maybe I try booth.

I was never a fan of the Tp5 balls, wind performance to me is the main factor.

I use the BX, to me its the best ball out there. I do want to try the Snell balls though.

The 2020 ball softened things up around the green for me compared to the 2018 ball.

I would recommend the BX to anyone, my other ball of choice is Pro V1X right now.

Best thing to say is just go out and buy one to try....

I'm a ball nut as well. Had been locked in on TP5x. Similar numbers, Driver 105-112...

I am a high spin player but switched irons this yr to Titleist t100S. I always liked the ProV(Vx) but it's never fun to stiff an iron approach and watch it spin off the green..UGH

I tried the b XS(tiger ball) based on a review by the TXG guys. It is exactly as it says....low spin off driver and more spin as you shorten the clubs. I am locked in on this ball. I will try the X next season but the XS is worth a try. The XS has such a great feel and it really stays in great shape. I have actually made through a few rounds on one ball with very little damage.

Enjoy

I find the B X to be much more comparable to TP5X than TP5.  I enjoy both balls and could play either B X or TP5X and be totally satisfied.  I do not really get along with TP5.  If you did not like TP5X you might not like the B X as much.

I switched to the Bridgestone B X this year from 2015 version ProV1x.  I have found the spin around the greens to be really good.  My swing speed is exactly same as you.  I have gotten great results through the entire bag.  I don't spin wedges much just from the way I approach wedge shots (land and stop, but don't ever spin them back) but do spin everything else a lot so it can be tough to have a balance finding the right ball. This ball has been great for me.

I played one alternate shot tournament and used a 2020 ProV1 some due to my partner and there were a few pitch shots that I clipped perfectly that spun much less than expected.  Couldn't believe the extra 5' of rollout.

I've also played some with the TPX this fall and it was lower spinning than the Bridgestone B X.  Around the greens definitely as a few shots I was surprised again by it not checking.  So I'd say what Bridgestone claims with their 2020 balls is pretty true with the new covers and I would not worry about controlling the B X around greens at all.  It's soft and spins when you need it and doesn't when you don't.

Hey Sven,

Don’t leave out the B XS! It fits your swing speed profile (over 100 mph).

I’ve switched from ProV and TP 5 to the B XS and my driver speed is low 90’s. It is longer off my driver and also my irons. It must be optimized for my spin and trajectory characteristics. Great ball! Give it a try, as I found 1 on the course it worked for me. Good luck.

I began this year playing the TP5 and ended up switching to the TP5X after a dozen or so rounds because it's not a wind ball and I live where it exceeds 15 mph more often than it doesn't. I'd given up on the TP5X earlier in the year because of durability issues but it seems like the later batches has that issue resolved.

While I was awaiting my latest shipment of TP5X I bought a dozen Tour BX to try and thoroughly enjoy this ball. I'll say that if you covered the logo 4 out of 5 wouldn't know the difference between it and the TP5X.

The Tour BXS is also a good ball and very similar in spin to the TP5 but I can't use it for the same reason as the TP5. Either ball will serve you well if you need a little more spin.

Sound like I have to test all 3, the B X, the B XS and the B RX.

Got it.  Makes WAY more sense now  lol

I need to get onto a proper launch monitor outdoors to see what the numbers are as I've really enjoyed using the BXS this summer.  I liked the previous edition TP5 as well and found that the current TP5x felt too clicky off the putter and I couldn't get it to spin on the little pitches and chips the way I wanted.  I ended the year trying out the ProV1.  First time playing a Titleist ball since the balata days.

Titelst hasn't been in my stable in a long time. The original Pro V1 was a Godsend to all of us but after 4-5 years they had a lot of worthy competition. I'll still buy a sleeve today if the course doesn't offer the TP5X or the Tour BX and the new Pro V1 is a worthy contender for my upcoming biennial ball trial.

I started out with the Rx and (to me) it is gives a great feel off of every club in the bag. I used the Xs this season as well and I would easily interchange either. Like my brother shared I would use the Rx if I’ve been playing with a cold swing. If it’s the summer and I’m on point Xs would get the work. Both balls work for me imo

you may end up liking the RX for that purpose as well.
