What is the cut line for this tournament? Guesses?  +4 or +5?  BTW, why did Yu Liu get DQ'd?

Cutline should be +6, but it could be +7 considering only 38 or less players will miss the cut.

LPGA has never told us about DQ's; we usually heard about it through grapevine.

Heck of a round by Sophia. Wow.

Seems like a typical Ross design. Generous fairways, but tough greens. Throw in some wind, and birdies are tough to come by. Anything under par today was a solid round.

This course seems be a great challenge for the girls, it really is separating those that have been playing the best this season.  The top 5 has plenty current 2020 winners and players that have been in contention a lot this season.  Sophia had a great round her putter was really hot today, Ashleigh also she becoming a solid contender almost weekly.  Sei Young opened nicely also, it's (course) very similar to the KPMG in respect very generous fairways and you gotta be dialed with your irons to have legitimate chance at birdie or a miss can be very costly.  Brooke had a solid start, not much volatility havin  1 bogey and 3 birdies and pretty much the same as Sei Young with the KPMG comparison except have a better final round lol.  Minjee will be interesting to follow this week, the LET win was great but I'm sure it's just an appetizer and she want that LPGA win and the LET victory might give her that confidence.

Scores were better in the afternoon.

Sei Young Kim, 3 behind the leader, is in a better position than after round 1 of KPMG where she trailed by 4.  She won KPMG by 5 shots going away.

Who will stand up and challenge Sei Young; Ally McDonald, Brooke, Minjee and Lydia are all in prime position to do that.

Popov is in a decent spot as well. 😁

No, not at all. We all know Popov - quick out of the blocks then crumbles under the teensiest bit of pressure!

Um, major winner?  She's still learning how to do this.  She's streaky and getting more starts in.  You don't learn to play with the big kids if you don't dig deep and play with them.

Agreed, very few players come onto tour ready to win and handle the pressures that come with it.

The majority have to learn how to handle it and in essence "pay their dues" with a few setbacks

After finishing T15 at ANA, Gabriela Ruffels has failed to make cuts at both Cambia and Pelican.

As we know, the road from amateur to LPGA is long and winding.

Gabriela is a young graduating senior, she'll be a 21 years old graduate next year.

To clarify, I was absolutely joking with my remark about Popov. Winning at Troon, in a major, in 60 km/h winds and firm greens, and pretty much your career on line - I think she handled the pressure!!

Meanwhile...engrossing tournament we have here. I am backing SYK to go on with it, and to be the greatest player of this era.

Doesn't it figure that after doing a piece on Bianca's love for her driver they'd cut back to see her hit a poor shot with a 3 wood? Doh. Grab the big stick! Lol.

Sei Young is definitely in a groove right now and playing some amazing golf, the bogey free round is what really impresses me.  I don't see many weakness in her game right now, she'll be tough to beat on the weekend.  Ally is also in a groove also but I'm not sure she has the fire power to keep up with Sei Young if she stays hot.  Sophia used up her mulligan today and she'll have to play flawless golf the rest of the way, Elizabeth had a great round today and will need it to continue.  I don't think the -3's and lower have a shot unless some carnage at the top occurs.

What a crazy tournament and course. Can't recall the last time we had a cut at 5 over, but the top five at five under or better. I'd say it's definitely a case of players seeing the course for the first time.

Sei Young is definitely on track to surpass Inbee as the best Korean player ever. Now that she's got her first major behind her, I don't see anything that's going to stop her. Maybe the strength of the competition will keep her from winning as many majors, but the regular wins are almost certainly going to keep piling up.

SYK is a force and I wouldn't bet against her but she's got a long ways to go and a lot of players to overtake to suprass the Queen.  A win this week would be a nice appetizer before she locks down the USWO for major number two.
