2021 Srixon ZX5, ZX7 (1020 Endo Forged) & ZX U Irons- New Pics Added Pg 3 w/ Comparisons

Based on general comments here and seeing how many non-contract players have them in their bag, I have to believe Srixon irons are performers. That said, I have never seen one that I love the look of from the top down. All of those top lines look so fat to me. That said, nice to see a solid lineup/release from them and I'll be curious to here people's reviews!

I currently have been looking for a set to upgrade from my Wilson F5 FG Tour irons.

When TM came out with the 770's, I thought that they were going to be my next set...until I saw the price tag.  From what I hear, the feeling of them isn't the best either (but I've never gamed good feeling irons).

This looks like the perfect set of beauty and forgiveness forged into a players look that will remain timeless for decades to come.  As a steep swinger, the V-sole looks like it could save me a stroke or two.  I'm thinking the ZX5/ZX7 combo.  Maybe all ZX7, I'll have to hit them and have an actual fit to decide.   Luckily I have some time to save up some money, but not as much as if I were going to go with TM770.

I had two sets of 565's with several shaft combos, and a year and a half ago went with 785's w/ stock Modus 120 S. Fantastic irons and I've owned a bunch of others... Bought a 585 4 iron from Srixon 4 months ago and dropped my 785 4 iron. Can't imagine a better set for me. I do like the look of the Z5 better than the 585 but like the look of the 785 better than the Z7. The cavity of the Z7 is just too odd looking to me. Great site lines from the top and the shape of the clubs looks great though. My biggest problem w/ the Z5/7 is that I don't care for the visual of the tungsten inserts in the long and mid irons, on these or any other clubs. I understand the purpose of the tungsten but on clean players iron like the Z7's, I don't want to see the matte tungsten insert on any of the irons. I am intrigued with the new Wilson Staff CB's but they have visual tungsten inserts too. Just my hang up I know but that is a big negative with me. I'll be fine with my 585/785's combo and not liking the look of the Z7's will give me an excuse to buy a set of Mizuno MP-20 SEL's... BTW, I just picked up a new Z785 driver with the Handcrafted HZRDS for a great price and it has made its way into my bag over my Flash Tensei Blue combo. Really good performer so far.

Agree completely that the new Z5 is the best looking yet in the 5 series and that the Z7 does not look as good as the 785, though I think the 745 looks better than either and remains the best version. Also agree the toplines on all of them are more mid-sized in width. I think the new utility is the best one yet — not so bulky.

But I think visual tungsten inserts look cool! It also is a nice little reminder to me that I’ve got some help.

Really, the only drawback I see to these irons is the v-sole. I’ve always thought it was a bit overrated vs other soles that have a more graceful camber and less width (the 5 series soles are pretty thick). I still prefer the soles Srixon had on the z725 before they came out with the v-sole.

I’m up for a demo of the new ones but I would say the Wilson Staff Model CB design is definitely a strong competitor.

Wish I could find a new or nearly new set of LH 745's...

I may have to overlook the inserts on the new Wilson Staff CB's if they perform for me. My first set of irons in the 70's was a mix match Wilson Staff set and I've been in love with that Staff badge ever since...

I am considering a combo set of 7x and zforged plus the gap wedge. I think that would make for a killer set. I wish they had a new blade coming out that was more like the 945s but whatever.

I had the 745's, pretty sure the 45's were Endo, no clue about the others. I stopped by the store today to check out some of the newer stuff, but I secretly mostly wanted to take a look at the 785's again to see if I liked the shape and topline so that I could start gearing up for some X7's. I think these are the front-runner for my next set, right now, but man, there are so many great choices these days.

Chat support on the Srixon website said they thought some lightweight heads for over length builds were in the works for these irons. Was that mentioned to you by the Srixon rep at all?

I didn’t hear anything about that but it didn’t come up. It would make sense though.

The zx7 will be my first set of Srixon irons. I am very excited about them.  I like the looks of these irons.  The only negative for me is that the v sole is too pronounced, and I wonder if it really makes that much of a difference.  Otherwise, I am looking forward to having them in the bag.

When you play in soft conditions or get a little steep, you will appreciate the V sole, trust me lol

And what about weakened lofts in average conditions leading to firm?

It really depends on how you are delivering the club of course, but I’m more of a picker of the ball due to growing up on a course with firm conditions most of the time, and the thinner soled Srixon irons have worked better for me. The V sole is like an insurance policy haha, you don’t necessarily notice it until you need it, and you won’t always know when you need it lol. As far as the weakened lofts, that again depends on how you’re delivering the club really. On paper, yes, that will increase bounce, raise the leading edge even more off the ground, snd make it more difficult on someone who is a picker/sweeper. In real life, I haven’t found that to be the case quite honestly.

Looks like money to me! The spin number is a touch on the low side, but that could easily be attributed to hitting off mats.

Absolutely! Everything looks to be in good standing, as @Valtiel said, spin is currently on the lower side, but I’d wager that number climbs to somewhere around 6300-6500 outdoors.

Cool

This was with the 7MC but I tried the longer irons and they weren’t forgiving enough for me.

Will use this as my baseline for ZXUT and 7 testing

How about playing in dry courses and the danger is to blade and top shots - will the V Sole make the problem worse?

Not at all, have played them off hard pan as a picker with no issues whatsoever. When soled in a standard setup, the leading edge actually sits closer to the ground than you’d think, especially when you Add in a little shaft lean.

True^^^

I played them all season from early spring (got them in March) when it was soggy and cold, thru summer including a 2 month stretch with very little rain.  The course I play the most is pretty dry usually, lots of clay/slate in the area making water absorb quickly.  And into the fall when it got soggy again.  Idk what it is about the sole, but for this digger it’s pure gold.  I can’t remember a time this year that it stuck one in the ground, had a few thin but still very playable.
