You bite your tongue!  hahahaha  I could have misremembered.  Its usually 1 AM.

I actually watched the Live cast and remember him saying Srixon is going "Back" to Endo with the new ZX line of Irons.

Has anyone picked up a set? If so, what’s the consensus on mixing the set and why club is beat to go from zx5 to zx7 (6i?).  How’s the turf interaction, as good as they say at TXG (can’t get enough).

Love no up charge for shaft and grip to spec. Waiting till March for a demo day, it’s monsoon season in the PNW. 😞

My full set of custom ordered ZX7's arrived today. Turf interaction is outstanding. I had to try pretty hard to get the sole to dig, it goes through turf like butter.

Considered a split set but the visible cavity in the ZX5 longer irons was offputting and the feel wasn't as nice. I also found that the only benefit from the ZX5 was higher launch and a shade more distance. I don't need the added launch and given the ZX5's need to be bent weak to make the split work the distance gains would be negated.

Unless you need help launching your irons I do not believe the ZX5 offers any more forgiveness.

What are your thoughts compared to Z785 turf interaction?

Although I have not ordered my ZX5 set yet, I did pick up a CBX2 Black 48 gap wedge last week. Having never owned or played Srixons, I did this mainly to see how I get along with the V-sole. The sole on the CBX2 48 is very similar to the ZX5 PW. I expected it to work for me because I am generally steep in terms of delivery, and it really does work! I went back and forth between my Vokey SM7 48 and the CBX2, and in comparison it's amazing how smoothly & quickly the V-sole gets through the turf. I'm seriously impressed.

The head on the CBX2 is a bit too large for my taste on a gap wedge, and I probably should have grabbed an RTX ZipCore 48 instead. But, the sole on that is slimmer and more in line with the ZX7. I'm really more interested in the ZX5, primarily because I'm not long to begin with (155yd carry on a 32 degree 7) and I get along better with slightly stronger short irons.

I'll need some more time to give a more informed opinion but the heel and toe cutaways along with vsole seem to make this club go through grass easier than anything I've hit before.

amazing that you think the zx7 is just as forgiving as the zx5, they made a very superior iron

I played my ZX5s last weekend for the first time. Turf interaction seemed good -- not sure if winter conditions makes any difference or not. My distances were good -- weather in the 40's so I clubbed up on #2 par 3 (did not need to hit iron on my first hole). I flew the green. So I hit my normal club and ended up hole high. It was that way the entire day -- I just played my normal iron distances and was hitting them despite the cold. Didn't lose that much distance on mis-hits. Just one day -- we'll see how this weekend goes.

My fitter, who is a scratch player, also ordered ZX5's. He didn't have interest in doing split set. He's a good ball striker with driver SS 110-113mph.

Not sure. I asked him if he was going to split set and he just said he liked the ZX5 better. He gamed both the PXG 0311P and Miura's (not sure what last year's model was) last year and is switching to ZX5.

When I got fit, I thought maybe I wanted the PXG 0211's. But I didn't like the look (too big) and my misses were straight pushes -- he said there's more weight in the toe on those heads. TBH, I didn't know much about Srixon. I had no idea of the quality or reputation. Gave me more confidence when I found out he was getting same set (but different shafts)

  • 3 weeks later...

Excited for mine to arrive -- I ordered the zx7 in a 5 and 6 iron to match with my current z945s from 7 iron to AW.

The reason I went with the zx7s is specifically that Srixon went back to the soles of the z945.

Nice to read everyone's thoughts here -- I'll try to report back once they arrive -- could be a number of weeks but it's all snow in these parts so no rush.

I’m saving my pennies and buying these sight unseen. My 765 grooves are wearing in the short irons. Four years at 140+ rounds per year will do that.

So I received mine 3,4,5 ZX5 and 6-A ZX7.
Was in the local golf shop and stumbled upon a ZX5 A wedge. Took a look at it and was like wow this looks better than the ZX7 A. Since I only use it for full shots I purchased it to test it against the 7. I was impressed with the wider sole and the overall appearance behind the ball sold it for me. So now my set consists of ZX5 3,4,5 and ZX7 6,7,8,9,P and a ZX5 A wedge.

Feel like I can work the ZX7 better and keep them Down if need be. But I am not opposed to a full set of ZX5. I’m a Ho so anything is possible.

Keep us updated about the ZX5 A wedge. I was considering doing the same.
