I actually ended up replacing my ZX5/ZX7 combo set and I’m not going to be in Mizuno Irons this year either. Ended up picking up a set of the new TM P790’s this week and am absolutely LOVING them so far!!

The feel and yardage control for these P790’s is significantly improved over the ‘17 and ‘19 versions, and am enjoying the extra forgiveness and pop off the face so far for sure.

u said u were never giving up the srixon irons? u are more of an iron ho then me. I still havent settled on my new irons yet for this year and sold my other ones, so currently have nothing. I tried the P790 for 2 weeks and hated the feel and square toe. Currently have a mizuno 225 vs the Srixon combo set u had. Why did u switch?

I’m a Club Ho for sure my man…I’ve learned to just embrace it and just enjoy the madness, Lol!!

The ZX5/ZX7 combo set was reeeeeally good, and the feel and control was off the charts. The issue for me was that although the ZX7’s are pretty forgiving for what they are, they’re still more Player CB/Blade-like than what I could really handle on a regular basis.

When you hit them on the sweet spot, they are absolutely incredible…but on my poor ball-striking days they could get really ugly really quickly.

All about what works best for you, but for me the ‘21 P790’s are really enjoyable so far and I think they’ll help my consistency of Iron play this season for sure.

now based on that if you werent such a ho u would have just stuck with the full set of zx5, and ditched the zx7? But u didnt want to do that did you? I am nervous also about my bad days so i am hesitant about the combo set. How much more forgiving are the x5 over the x7

I ditched the ZX5 7-PW for the ZX7. Much better contact. I don’t know what it was with the ZX5 but I’d catch them thin too much

Haha. No, I actually never had a full set of ZX5.

I was fitted for a set of ZX5's, but ended up deciding on a combo set. Originally I had ZX5 4-6, and ZX7 7-PW. Then I switched out the ZX5 6-iron for a ZX7 6i because I preferred the ZX7's overall. I also added a ZX7 AW.

I agree with Mobert, there was something about the ZX5 that I never really got along with. I actually tried a ZX4 4-iron as well, and couldn't hit the thing to save my life, Lol. I think there was something about the V-Sole combined with the chunkier sole that just didn't work with my swing.

I have had a love/hate relationship with the ZX4 in a 4 iron.  I went for three months and it was the best thing ever.  Then I fought with it for a couple of months and bent my ZXU weak.  Then I put it back in for a couple of months and it was great again.  I am in the middle of a hate cycle with it.

I put an old Callaway UT in it's place currently, and have a new Callaway UT on the way with an AD-DI on it's way.

I wish I knew what the issue was with the zx4, when it was good it was great.

I still play the ZX5 in the 5 iron and really like it, but the ZX7 in the 6 iron down have been great and no chance any of them get replaced with a ZX5.

The ZXU is bent back to 18, after a short stint at 16* to try as a severe driving iron.  It goes in and out of the bag depending upon the course and either Driver or 5 wood comes out.
