Has anyone done a Head to Head comparison with the Srixon ZX7 & NL PF2 ?  They have my interest.

I feel like I've answered this recently and apologize if this is redundant.

I've owned the PF2 since they first came out.  My adult son has had the ZX7's since they came out.  We both believe they are very different irons.  If you have a steeper angle of attack and love that V-sole on the Srixon's, then you may not like the PF2 as much. The PF2 sole will not prevent you from digging as much as the v on the Srixon's.  They have a soft feel and semi-powerful thud.  Launch a little lower and spin more than the Srixon's.  Offset is similar between them from what I can tell.  I love the PF2's and wouldn't switch to the ZX7's.  My son loves the ZX7's and wouldn't switch to the PF-2's, although he did like them.  I really like the Srixon's, but don't get along with that sole.  Distance is similar for me, but I felt like the ZX7's were maybe a few yards longer due to the lower spin.  On a launch monitor, carry was within a few yards, but the Z's would roll out a little more.

Just my experience.  Both nice, but irons are all about your specific swing and game.

Yes, and I also believe New Level irons are .370 hosels and that means they can take parallel tip shafts, which I like in the case of KBS Tours because the taper tip 120S feels too stiff for me but the parallel tip Tour stiff is just right.

Having played two NL heads plus the wedges I’ll say these are a lot more like Mizunos in terms of low bounce vs the high bounce Srixon v-sole. I am far better with lower bounce irons.

Good to know....  So if I don't like the Tour V I can't use my spare set of Modus 120S .355 Taper shafts 😞

I was under the impression New Level were tapered.  I admit I've based that on the MMT 105 or 125 shafts in the build options.

I am no club building expert but I think they work fine with shims. I think builders do it all the time. More work to go the other way and bore out a .355 hosel to take a .370 shaft.

See, I am like Greg Norman, who only will play with parallel tips. Says he can tell the difference. There is a great story about him going to tapers once and then immediately going back. That’s the only way I’m like Greg Norman. 😉

It is a myth often spread on wrx that clubs built with parallels are “descending weight” as you go from 4 iron to wedge. The shaft may be descending weight due to trimming blanks, but that is a part, not a club, and the difference is more than wiped out by the heavier head weights. The clubs still get heavier, it is just the difference between each club is a little less, which is what I like about parallel builds.

Currently playing P750 Proto's. Really want a set of pf2’s but I’m assuming I’m really not going to gain or lose very much by switching. Change my mind…

Damn that’s a tough one! The 750 Proto is so good. I love those irons. I would say they are pretty similar and will not be worlds apart in performance. PF2 is a super iron as well. It feels as good and you might gain a few yards because it spins a little less for me. Blade length slightly longer on PF2, but it it slight so maybe a bit more room with speed retention. Little less bounce on the PF2 which always suits me. So ultimately would come down to how dialed in your build is and whether you middle your irons every time.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have 2 rounds in with my new PF2 irons and I'm extremely please and for the meantime they are kicking my Srixon ZX7s out of the bag. They are a bit more upright

than what I have played over the years but that's not been a problem and the pre-worn leading edge sole seems to be working better than the V sole on the Srixons.

That's awesome, I know this is a subjective question but how does the PF2's feel in comparison to the Srixon's or Mizuno's? I just demo'd the PF2 7 Iron and I have to admit it felt really nice and the ball flight was exactly what I was looking for. Would love to hear any additional thoughts you have on them.

I honestly have to say they feel softer than the Srixon and most Mizuno irons I've played and on par with the OnOff Kuro 2015 Irons I played 5 years ( Endo Forged )

Tzoid, thankful you posted messages in this thread as I was a lurker and torn between zx7 and PF-2's. I've only hit the zx7 off mats, loved it with the C taper lite 110. But so intrigued with the PF2, that I'm willing to take a shot in the dark. Im more of a picker and play on harder turf, Eastern WA desert. The bounce is so different in the longer irons between the two but seem to get closer in the shorter clubs. Wish I could test both on real ground but I cannot at the moment. Hope you're enjoying those PFs!

Took the bait and ordered 4-9 PF2’s. They were delivered in 9 or so days and they look absolutely amazing. I honestly feel like the craftsmanship is leaps and bound abound any major OEM. They just have a very custom feel about them.  At address they remind me of the Wilson FG Tour V6. Have yet to hit them yet but have a big 2 man this weekend where they’ll get their first run.
