Winter Golf Jackets

Looking for a winter golf jacket. Was considering the one below since I have a UA discount and enjoy their other golf apparel. Anyone have it and can give feedback? If not any suggestions? Have been a big winter golfer in the past but thinking of changing that this year.

I wear a down sweater/jacket. Something you can pick up at REI, or similar. Some sales are going on right now. I didn't see the need to get a golf specific jacket. It's warm, and has plenty of range of motion, and I picked it up on sale.

I have the hooded version of that UA jacket and it’s great. Super warm and really stretchy. I got it due to high recommendations in the best jacket under 50 degrees thread that’s on here a few posts below.

I just picked up an Adidas frostguard golf jacket.  Golf specific and it's great.   

I also have non golf specific packable down jacket and vest that are great, too.

I recently purchased an Eddie Bauer hybrid jacket from one of their outlet stores. The chest is filled with a synthetic down (fairly thin) but the arms are more of just a fleece type lining. I've not worn it in really cold conditions but so far, I've been happy with it. In cold weather, I'll definitely have to layer under (and possibly over) it but has done well in active things in fall weather.

Same, I have this with the hood and it’s incredibly warm. Reminds of the Norse.

I recommend cross country ski jackets from all of the major companies in that arena (Fischer, Saloman, Atomic, etc. (Mine is a yoko model)). The needs of both sports are similar in that cross country skiing requires freedom of movement in the shoulders and arms like golf. Also many models are wind/waterproof.

 

I prefer that style jacket with layers compared to a bulkier down jacket.

I just got this jacket and only thing I don't like is when I bend over it puffs out in-between my arms..  annoying but I guess this happens with all zipper jackets?

Norse or Norse Zoned? I can see the difference in insulation, but is one better for the elements and the other easier to swing?

Thanks browne11.  Once I put in cart I saw the discount.  Anybody willing to share size recommendations or their rough height/weight?  When I searched I saw a couple comments about this wearing one size smaller, but that wasn't always the case and don't see a ton of reviews out there with size comments.

I think this years fits more like normal American sizing and the previous versions were tighter euro cut. But I’m not positive.

i have the original version and last years. both in large.  Last years fits like most other large jackets in the shoulders and arms and is slightly slim fitting.  The original version was slimmer and had shorter sleeves by an inch or so. 6 foot 185 wide shoulders and no gut here.

general rule for ping is if you are carrying a big gut you may want to size up, but if this years jacket is anything like last year, the large fits similar to other large jackets

The sizing chart on PING's website still indicates that Jackets run 1 size smaller than polo shirts do.  A 45-48" chest is XL for polos, but XXL for jackets.  This size chart is consistent with last year's chart, which I found to be pretty accurate for me.

 

The Norse is an awesome jacket.  Even though I have last year's model, I ordered this year's model today after getting the 25% off email.

I picked up the s3 but it’s a little bulkier in the midsection than I hoped.  Thinking about giving the s2 a roll

It’s great to wear around but honestly it’s too warm if it’s in the 40s, in my opinion, IF you walk like I do. I’m definitely keeping it but it works so well its use seems somewhat limited. It was sunny but windy from the north and about 40 degrees and I shed it immediately.

My experience was the same.  Still searching for the 40 degree wind proof jacket

I have last year’s Norse & find it too hot even riding in the 40’s. I have other more breathable ones I prefer in 40’s weather & still prefer my mizuno lined sweaters when it’s 20’s & 30’s.

Callaway has a nice one ... picked it up during a sale this fall.  Body is insulated, arms are a fleece style fabric.  Have not used it yet, but should fit the bill.

The Sun Mountain Granite is great winter golf jacket. Pair with snood and decent stocking cap and you can play in most any temp.

Similar to the one I got.  My sleeves are more like the Under Armour Daytona fabric (very small horizontal ribs down the entire sleeve).

 

Sunice also has some good stuff ... Men's Hamilton Hybrid Climaloft Lightweight Thermal Stretch Jacket - Sunice

 

I have the Hamilton vest from them but the Callaway jacket fit better.

 

I also tried some Sun Mountain jackets, but again, the Callaway fit better (and at the time was only about $40 ... ).  I doubt it is as warm as the Ping Norse that everyone loves, but for the money I am pretty happy.  Better than a similar 32 Degree from Costco that I use for running.  The 32 Degree has an elastic banded bottom (which I do not like for golf) and a hood.  Great for winter exercise (biking, running), but not my favorite for golf.
