Anyone know what the courses will be like at the end of February?  I assume most of the grass will be dormant and yellow, is this true?

Courses may be brown, but should be in great condition if the weather cooperates.

Might cross paths at the resort!

We're arriving on Saturday the 27th and leaving Monday the 1st. I'll be over at Pine Needles on the 26th and Tobacco Road on the 1st.

Following on the conditions. End of March / first of April?

I was told it will be coming out of dormancy so should be green or close but some areas will still be brown / dormant.  I have always gone in the middle of the summer (hot...LOL) and its really green but frim too.  Like the roll out I was getting 😃

Edit: Some reason I have always loved the look / contrast of green fairways with brown rough, not sure why but do.  Frames the hole in my mind.

Mostly depends on the weather. If it's a cool March could still be on the dormant side, if it warms up early should be greening up.

Took a buddies trip down there MLK weekend (1/15/21-1/18/21).   We played #2 on Saturday, the Cradle on Sunday AM, drove over to Pine Needles on Sunday PM, and played #4 on Monday and then flew home.  The breakfast buffet in the Carolina Hotel is outstanding.  We had dinner Saturday night at the Pinehurst Brewing Company (shuttle will take you down there and pick you up).  Had dinner Sunday night in the Ryder Cup lounge at the hotel.  Great food at both places. Everything is first class and you will have a great experience.

The shuttles will take you anywhere, but one of the nice parts about Pinehurst is how close everything is. If the weather is nice the brewery is about a half mile walk from the Carolina hotel.

Greens were quick and had undulations that reminded me of #2. Ross design also (I think).

Thx. I have played PN twice. Once in mid-February and the greens were a little hairy and the other time was a tournament round in September. Played like two different golf courses. I love the course.

It’s one of my favorites.  Going to play it again in a few weeks.

We booked and are only getting a half hour per person for the fitting? Anyone else? Expected an hour, not sure why.

I did this package 2 years ago.  I went for the driver fitting.  1/2 hour was enough.   And because Pinehurst personnel are the best.  My fitter sqeezed in a FW/Hybrid fitting that took another 20 minutes or so.

Someone asked about shafts.  I recall a very good selection. But I’m generally fine with stock options.  So I wasn’t locked in on what after market shafts they had.

i ordered the driver from the fitting center and if was shipped to me within 2 weeks.

i had planned to go this time as well unfil i ended up in the hospital for 7 days with COVID and am still recovering.

Couple of questions for those that have done this:

1. Is the Titleist shop credit good for FootJoy as well or is it only Titleist?

2. Thoughts on best places to eat? One night we will def go to the Brewery but unsure the other night. I don't remember thinking much of the food at the Ryder Cup but its been a few years. How is the 1895 Grille?

Our trip is coming up in a week and a half, fingers crossed for reasonable weather

depends what you’re looking for. Last time I went I brought my wife and we had a nice date night at 1895.

someone recently here was complaining about the food but that was very different than our experience.

the Carolina hotel restaurant is nice but because of its size/setup for breakfast buffet sort of feels like a cafeteria even at night.

agreed with you Ryder cup was meh, I would only eat there for snacks or something.

The tavern is tiny but was a really nice spot and had outdoor dining. Their food was better than Ryder cup - upscale pub food.

There are some good restaurants off site in Southern Pines - take a look online and see what suits your tastes. Any would be better than the resort food.

I’m not a food snob by any means but also have eaten at a lot of good restaurants over the years.

If a package includes 3 course dinners, the quality would have to be pretty darn bad for me to pass that up and spend money elsewhere...

My thoughts exactly. That 3 course meal would probably be at least 50 bucks without alcohol.. Be pretty hard to turn that down...

Yea, that is our thinking. I agree there are some great places to eat in Southern Pines and even in the village but free is free so at least for those two nights, we are sticking to Pinehurst owned food. The Brewery has really good food so we will be going there one night, just trying to figure out the other night.

I’m also not sure why we are treating their food like dog food all of a sudden.

They may not have a Michelin star but they are an upscale resort. I was happy with pretty much everything and had some very good dinners.

Just a heads up - I called yesterday about booking a different package and was told this was available again this year. All the same details and price as last year. Will be announced this week I believe, but you can book now if you call. I booked for the final weekend in Feb. Playing 2,4,8 and the cradle. We added a night and 1 round (and breakfast) to the package for an extra $250.

Interesting, I am pretty sure she said $699 on the phone, and on there it says $799. I'll have to check my confirmation email.

I am thinking of booking it for sometime in February. Probably be closer to $1,000 I am guessing as a single.

For those that have been.... What's the weather like in Pinehurst in Jan/Feb?

The deal is enticing, but I'm not sure I'd want to make the trip to play in 40-50* weather.

I looked at the historical temps the last 5 years for the dates I am going (final weekend of Feb). The past 5 years the average for that weekend was above 60. Last year the weekend was close to 80.
