Nippon Modus 120x

I'm currently using KBS Tour V 110 Stiff in my irons which I was fitted for about 6 months ago.

 

Can't say I'm crazy about them but went for a different fitting and was advised to change to Modus 120x.

 

I'm not too educated on shafts really with all your kick points and such but wondering if it's quite a difference? My 7 iron swing speed is roughly 86mph.

 

Is an x-flex too much? Is the KBS not enough?

 

I'm confused.

I have a higher swing speed and using Stiff flex. You want to swing easy with Modus 120. If you are a hitter I am not sure if it will work too well. My previous shaft was DG S300. I am very happy with the change.

 

Edit: Another option is to find a good coach and get one lesson. You would be surprised how you will be able to hit pretty much with any shaft if you have a good swing.

Modus 120 is about a flex softer than DG; the 120 X is not too far off from DGS.

 

If at all possible, try before you buy.  😉

I play 120X and have close the same swing speed as you - no issues whatsoever with the X flex.

 

I would say the shafts are quite different though, barring a dramatic swing change in 6 months, I'm simply curious as to how you could get recommendations at either end of the spectrum.

 

Are you having enough spin with the Tour V?

I have your 7I SS spot on and I play 120x. I do have a pretty darn quick tempo and transition though, it's not all swing speed. Extra weight helped my dispersion as well. 

 

The KBS Tours were too high launching and high spinning for me. Perhaps your new fitter saw something similar? If you have any launch and spin numbers to break this down further too, that would help 🙂

 

QUICK EDIT: Now realizing the Tours and Tour Vs are different animals. My bad, my experience in the above probably isn't applicable - but launch/spin comparisons would still help us break it down a bit further!

I've ordered a 7iron with the modus and I'll see how I get on.

 

I can't obtain launch and spin numbers with each fit but everything was on point with both, only difference being that the second dude emphasised that I need a 120g shaft with more stiffness in the tip.

 

I suppose that would suggest that the KBS is less stiff at that end.

Kbs Tour V and Modus 120 are pretty much the exact opposite in terms of profile.  KBS is very stiff in handle and midsection and soft in the tip, while Modus 120 is very soft in handle, soft in middle, and stiff in the tip.  I really like the KBS Tour V and use Modus 130s in my irons which have almost exactly the same profile.  I was all over the yard with Modus 120- they didn’t work for me.
