How do you layer up in the 🥶 COLD.

For pants, I wear soft shell hiking pants.  They're fleece lined and fairly comfortable.  If it's below 30 and windy, then I'll wear some thermal underwear under them.

For a top, I'll put on a winter thermal under armor, a long sleeve wind breaker over it, and a fleece vest over that.

I bring a winter coat with me to put on between shots.

Thermal socks.

Removing a coat between shots can become tedious, but I just work it into my pre-shot routine.

The course is dead, I'm not holding anyone up.

Bottom:

Under Armour tights, under Adidas Frostguard pants.

Top:

Under Armor long sleeve mock, under a galvin green midlayer thing that traps heat very well, under a sunice long-sleeve half zip, under a sunice windproof shell.  Seems like a lot, but it swings pretty freely.  If there is no wind, i will ditch the shell in my bag.

My shoes are Adidas Tour360.  They are solid leather, so they are actually pretty good in the cold.  Regular socks.

Stocking hat.  Titleist hand warmer thingie that goes around your waist.  Then a couple of zippo hand warmers (these things are awesome).  That keeps the hands very warm, which is priority one two and three for me.  It can be miserable out, but if my hands and head are warm, its all good.  To me the disposable ones are not warm enough.

Playing in Finland, it can get cold early and late in the season. If it's 30's and windy, it can be tough.

My setup:

Lower:

Underwear, long underwear, golf pants, rain pants (as needed). Wool socks, waterproof shoes.

Upper:

cotton t-shirt, long sleeve dryfit undershirt, golf polo, sweater (J Lindeberg, for example), cross country ski jacket, rain jacket (as needed).

Hat: Wool flat cap (no wind), wool beanie (ear flaps for wind)

Gloves: ski gloves as needed

This was really helpful! Starting to look at what golfing in Canada (emigrating) might look like...

Under layer. 3 choices dependent upon conditions.

Under armour cold gear level 2, long sleeve t-shirt like top, bottoms more like compression pants. - cool, 50-55

Under armour fitted level 3 (infrared) - cold.  40-50

Double layer-capilene snow boarding long johns - what the hell are we doing out here cold? sub 40.

Have a windlite like FJ sweater with wind breaking layer, for cold weather down to 40.

Otherwise I have a UA storm elements infrared jacket. Thin, warm. Wish I had more of these, can't find them anymore. Loosen fitting and flexible, like a rubber coated mircofleece. Rarely have more than three layers on top (golf polo being one of them) and two on the legs, all wind proof outerwear.   Knee high wool socks...all the cool kids are doing it.

Gotta stand the cold to play in the cold, otherwise it's miserable with too much restriction.  IMO of course.

If you walk, most of these layers unecessary with the right under layer.  When riding, you're going to be cold in the cart.  Take booze.

Adidas fall weight pants, or for ice cold weather their winter pants.  Think sweatpant lined golf pants...lol

I play year round - but it isn't that cold here. Sub 40 isn't that often, may start the AM there but rarely stays there.

I hate the cold, but if a course is open in ND you go play. I played in December for the first time ever this year.

Base. Under armour cold gear Leggings, thin pants, thick rain pants

Top. Two under armour cold gear, 2 pullovers, winter hat

Most important. Gaiter and Hand warmers

Does anyone actually enjoy playing in the low 30s?

I know we have to do the internet toughness thing. At the end of the day i live year round in Montreal, low 30s is just a way of life here so it's no big deal overall.

However i can't say i particularly enjoy playing golf in it. Golf just isn't really a game for freezing temps. I used to play in a Flag Football league that ran November and December outdoors, i actually found that more enjoyable

No. Late or early in the season is what gets me out there. More so late. I still can’t believe it when I see people out there in shorts.

Played yesterday after a rare cold front dropped our temperatures from our normal low 60s to low 70s to the high 40s.  Had the opportunity to play a course I really wanted to play, so my buddy and I decided to make do.  I essentially used my winter fly fishing and general out door clothing for golf and went with Patagonia capilene midweight long underwear top and bottom, a long sleeve mock turtle neck, a North Face 1/4 zip fleece pull-over and a North Face Apex vest and my core was warm enough.  Although the vest was wind resistant, the wind was the biggest obstacle and really made the cold feel much worse.  Later in the morning when the wind died down, I was able to shed the vest and felt relatively warm.

in NC i have to second many posts.

underwear, thermal tights, thick socks, pants

tank top, thermal tights, polo, jacket (jacket depends on temp)

I like my ears open to hear the club hit the ball so I don't typically wear a toboggan.

I havent found anything that works for the hands other than hand warmers in pockets between shots. I dont want mittens to take on and off but I like to feel the club. I do not wear gloves at any point in the year. If it gets near freezing, I may bend and test out the wintersof gloves.

But you have worn one?

Yes. I have worn one once or twice out of a great many so its not significant.

I can also update that I did buy and will be returning the wintersof gloves since this post. The fingers of the glove are too short to comfortably use an interlocking grip.

One of the best things to keep me warm that I've found is actually walking.  When its cold cold, I walk usually.

I got some of the Adidas hoodies for Christmas and they might be the warmest thing I've ever worn in all honesty, I get them a hair big just so I don't lose a lot of mobility in the swing.  But those, a stocking cap, shirt, and Old Navy Pants (or some fleece lined pants if its just really cold).  SIL also got me an electric hand warmer thats really really good as well off of Amazon.

Since im from California, anything below 70 is very cold, and below 60 is extreme golfing weather.

I’d have more layers than a SWAT member.
Under armour heatgear layer top and bottom, golf shirt and pants, lightweight sweater (cashmere or merino), and a down vest if below 60.

If it’s below 50 then I’ll wear nothing but a huge blanket, while watching golf in bed.

It was 36 degrees here today and was down near Pinehurst and decided to stop in a local course and see if I could play a quick 18. They paired me with 3 guys that were literally on the tee when I checked in as they were booked for the next hour. Turned my vest power on and headed to the first tee. I could tell these guys were curious as I simply had on a vest and a quarter zip and the power button was glowing. They didn’t say anything until we made the turn and they asked what was glowing on my vest when we were grabbing a beer and dogs. I told them what it was and offered to let one of the guys that was my size try it on. He lit up when he tried and immediately started telling his buddies how warm it was. He wore it outside and back in and was amazed. I got their numbers and texted them the Amazon link. By the time we finished 18 (and many questions about sizing later), they all had ordered one for themselves and one of the guys ordered his son and his dad one as well.

Got the adidas Frostguard In today.  It’s 35° here but haven’t worn it outside.  Will likely walk the dog in it shortly but it doesn’t feel that warm.  Does it stack up to the Ping Norse? The arms feel like it would still be cold.  They are just neoprene sleeves.

Ordered the black and blue heated vest along with the battery per Chilidog's recommendations on Amazon.  I went with the large in black and an XL in the blue.  Hope they fit right.

I wore a thin baselayer, Greg Norman 1/4 zip and my Frostguard this morning to walk 2 miles.  It's was 25F with little wind and I had to unzip it after a mile.

Good. Hope so.  It just feels lighter than the Norse. And the sleeves are obviously not where the warmth is whereas the Norse is the same all over the jacket. That said the frost guard seems like it will be way easier to swing because of that as well

You have to make compromises somewhere.
