Great head and great shaft - the most important thing is if they will work for you.

A little more info on what you are using now and what you like or dislike about it and your tendencies would go a long way in providing feedback.

Ryan

Thanks Ryan. Currently using Modus 120 S with Srixon Z785. This combo is working great for me and especially liking the v sole. 7 iron distance between 165 to 175 yards.

I was informed that MC501 and Modus 120 combo might fly the ball too high hence would like to know more details.

My home course is windy (sometimes extreme wind) links style and turf conditions are normal. Not too hard or soft but can get soft during rainy season.

Likes - Soft feel and consistent and predictable distance. Mid flight low spin will be great. Generally I like the feel of Srixon and Mizuno iron heads.

Dislikes - Feel of iron head getting stuck on the turf aka bad turf interaction. Chunky irons.

Please let me know if you would like to know more so that I can get good input from the members. Thanks.

I’m playing the 501 with modus 130.  So not same. But similar.  I’m loving them so far.  Really good look and feel on the short irons.  I don’t see how anyone couldn’t flight them down if need be.  Not a ballooning combo in my eyes.

Overall they will play similar - the 501 has a blunted leading edge but a wider sole.

The one main thing to keep in mind is the lofts on the srixon are stronger and will help with lower spin and a potentially lower flight - this could be negated by bending the miuras stronger but you will end up with more offset and less bounce.

The 501 also  have a wider sole than people expect which helps make them very forgiving for their looks but also means the ball has the potential to launch higher which is sounds like is something you arent looking for

Thanks for this. Yup love the looks of MC501 but if it is not going to perform the way I need it to then no use getting it.

Regardless, I would really like to own a Miura in my lifetime. So the next best choice i have is MB 101. Looks very demanding.

Have you tried MB 101 with Modus 120?

Does MC501 play more like a blade or cavity?

Are the offsets quite a bit compared to Mizuno MP lines or Srixon Z series? Thanks

To me it plays like an older MB.  What most people forgot is that most older mb irons had more weight down low.  Spreading it out toeside and high is a modern thing.  This I love.  I’ve always found older irons easier to hit high.  Any iron can be flighted down by the right pair of hands.  But hitting an iron high that has a very high vertical center of gravity is a chore.  This iron is the opposite of that.

offset is noticeable in the 3/4 irons only to me. 5-pw doesn’t show offset as being noticeable.  I am not a huge offset fan.  So take that into consideration, the small amount in the long irons doesn’t put me off. And I’ve loved many irons with no offset.  ( Miura BB , Vega vm-01 , 681 titleist , ping blueprint etc )

this isn’t a hard iron to hit in my opinion.  Goes through the ground nicely , looks good , launches easy and feels solid even if missed toeside a hair. Which is another plus to the low center of gravity.

If it were me and I was going to spend the scratch on a new set ( I traded a mizuno set for mine )...., don’t sleep on the small blade.  I subscribe to the more mass behind the middle the better.  So a small head works. Ping proved this again with blueprint.  Not just in theory. They tested for a long time to arrive at that size.  And was just coincidence that it also mirrored what some of us have said for years.  The smaller fat irons are easy to hit.    If I spent new Miura money again. It would be on a black boron set of 57 small blades.  Wish I had kept my set.  But you know how that is.  Lol.  I also wish I’d kept the tour van built set of hand ground Vega blades I had.  Straight off the van at Quail hollow .  To this day the sweetest feeling iron I ever hit.  But I’m a dumbarse.   🤦‍♂️

Don't worry. Plenty of beautiful fishes in the ocean... They are just expensive and very demanding, that's all... LOL

I have about 20 rounds playing my Miura TC-201's with the Modus 120 stiff. It's not the MC-501 you are talking about - but they are fairly close. The most significant feedback I can give you about my setup (aside from absolutely loving it) is that I flight the ball in the air easily with a penetrating ball flight that is a tad on the higher side of trajectory. It's not balloon super high, but relative to other setups I've played it is a touch above medium flight. Hitting greens the ball sticks, and often times I'll get tour-sauce with lower and mid irons. They are highly accurate. I have not had any major issues with the flight in windy conditions, I just adjust for it and it's not an issue.

Distance and power is effortless with the modus 120 as the engine of the club. Easy relaxed tempo swing will put an optimal flight on the ball that is straight/accurate with excellent spin. Stiff on this shaft is maybe slightly less stiff than other brands I've heard, and it feels that way although I have never overpowered them. They feel very comfortable and soft when you connect. I'm at around an 80-84mph 7 iron swing speed and 105-108mph driver just for reference. I'm not just hitting more greens than I ever have, but I'm also hitting closer to the pin than I ever have. Not sure if its the clubs, but this setup is doing me right. Hope that helps!

I've also used the modus 105 stiff in some srixon 7 series irons, I found that setup just as comfortable  - but the setup was just too light for me. I felt I needed a bit more weight in my shaft, so I went to the 120. Flight was a tad lower on the 105 (that could have been the different irons)
